Default For The Men Dealing with Grief

UNTITLED
It must be very difficult
to be a man in grief,
since "men don't cry" and "men are strong"
no tears can bring relief.

It must be very difficult
to stand up to the test
and field the calls and visitors
so she can get some rest!

They always ask if she's alright
and what she's going through.
But seldom take his hand and ask,
"my friend, but how are you?"

He hears her crying in the night
and thinks his heart will break.
He dries his tears and comforts her,
but "stays strong" for her sake.

It must be very difficult
to start each day anew,
and try to be so very brave-
he lost his baby too.

I loved your poem, I don't know how I would have gotten through the loss of my girls without my first husband, he was there for me in a way nobody else could be, He was torn up to but he was still there for me and very few people understood that he was in pain as well....

To all the wonderful men out there, thank for being there for us and I hope that we all can return the love.

Misty

Oh :o no I didn't write it... I just found it and thought it was really good. I think it's important to acknowledge men's grief also.

I lost my baby yesterday and my husband has been so strong. I am really worried about him. I know I will be ok, but I'm not so sure about him. This poem brought tears to my eyes.

Bug--Thanks for posting this. I'm printing this for my DH and the DH of one of my friends who just had a m/c. My friend got some literature from the hospital that talked about men's grief--it said that women grieve the first year, men the second. I can definitely see how that is true. Through all of this, my husband has not shed a tear in front of me, not even when I have been bawling hysterically. In the car last night though he told me he cried one night when I wasn't home. It touched me. I just think it's hard because men and women grieve so differently (at least in our case.
