hi everyone , My obgyn wants my husband to do a sperm count test before starting first round clomid. The problem is he dosent seem to enthused about going. Did anyone else have an issue like this one / what did ya do ? Thanks & may Allah bless us all !
Well, I can tell you how my Church handles it. We see sex as the union between man and wife, and for a man to purposely ejaculate outside of that union, is a sin. SO, when a Catholic husband needs a semen sample, he should use and obtain a perforated, un-spermicided/unlubricated condom. This maintains the potential for the creation of life (God willing), but obtains the necessary sample as well. It maintains the unitive and the procreative portions of the marital union (one without the other is wrong/sinful to us), while obtaining that which is needed for the medical folks.
Of course, you would have to time it, and get the sample containerized and to the dr asap afterwards. But you CAN do it. Catholics either find a dr trained in NaPro, or contact the Pope Paul VI institute for the condoms.
That *may* alleviate some of your DHs concerns, if the fact that there is porn in those rooms, or that it would be otherwise unfriendly to your faith, makes him uncomfortable. This way, it could occur in the midst of normal marital activity, and wouldn't require much effort on his part. Ykwim. ;-)
my hubby was very uncomfortable with it. We prayed about it and we decided to go in and give the SA. You can ask the re about taking care of things at home and just bringing the sample into the dr.'s office afterwards. I wish you well
My DH wasn't happy about the test (for personal, not religious reasons) but he realized that it made more sense for him to get tested before I took any more fertility drugs myself, so he was willing to do it. Which ended up being a great decision because he had some borderline issues, too, and once we knew about it we included herbal supplements for him and an IUI and we were finally able to get a BFP.
If he is uncomfortable about the procedure itself, many places will let you take the sample from home and bring it into the office like a pp said. Our office was too far away to do that, but they were very upfront about what DH could expect for giving the sample and they had rooms designated for that purpose. They weren't normal exam rooms but had a couch, softer lamp lighting, an attached bathroom (not accessible outside of the room) as well as a clean set of sheets and pillows. We were able to go in together and take our time, and it was very discrete.
And, I'm not sure how the subject came up but DH ended up talking with several friends that he works with and found out that they had done it, too. I think that helped DH when he could joke about it with them.
