Unhappy Met :(

Hi Everyone,

I have just been diagnosed as insulin resistant. I am feeling very blah right now because after all these years of trying no one ever told me this is the reason why i haven't conceived yet. All it took was one simple blood test. Anyways, I like many of the other cysters here am taking metroformin 1500 mg/daily and it is making me go through the motions from nausea to you know what. I just cut back to 1000mgs. Can anyone tell me how to curtail these symptoms. Next month I start taking clomid and estrogen patches which I also heard can make you loopy. Today I cried during and Oprah episode which is so unlike me. Arrrggghhh

Welcome!

I remember well the beginning stages of met, and it's nasty. To a degree, your body may have to just get through this period of adjustment to the drug, but there are some things you can do to help.

I had side effects for a full year until I started limiting my carbs...the more circulating insulin your body has, the worse we tend to feel. If you can stay away from really starchy stuff like heavy pasta, white bread, and sweets, it will ease your tummy a lot. Those starchy things spike your insulin and the more even you can keep your insulin, the less the met well have to work and the better you'll feel.

Also, if you aren't already, take met with food...it can be a buffer that will help your poor tummy.

If you need it, IMMODIUM AD can be a real lifesaver for ladies with troubled GI tracts.

Hope you get feeling better soon. I can easily say that in the last 2.5 years on Met that the side effects were worth the results to my bloodwork, periods, weight and health. I hope it will do the same for you.

All the best!

Talking Whoa!!!

Are you just starting the met and taking the whole dose from the start???? If you are just starting the met, I would strongly recommend starting at 500mg daily for one week, then up it to 1000mg daily for one week, until you reach your full dose. If you already did that part, then the suggestions Christy gave above will be helpful to you. Normally, when someone is starting met, they have you work up gradually until you reach your full dose....it helps to ease the effects somewhat until your body adjusts.
