Default from met to actos

My doctor just informed me that the met has changed my liver function and he is changing me to 45 mg actos, i currently am taking synthyroid 88 mg and he added cytomel 5 mcg a day. I had heard all the rave reviews aboutmet and am now concerned about this change. I have not yet had any sign of Af or O (on meds 1 month) Can anyone give me a ray of hope with this recent change and any info on how acto verses met ?

Talking

I've been on Actos twice. Met made me too sick to even eat.

The first time, after about 2 months on it, I started having AF regularly. Something I never did on Met, and I took it for almost a year. I went to an RE, who worships Met, and told him it made me sick. He said well, that's what I give my PCOS pts, and promptly wrote me a script for 500 mg more than what I had taken before. 1 week later, can't eat again, so I got discouraged and quit it all.

This past August, I went to my GYN and she started me back on the Actos. I have been taking BCPs with it, so I can't tell you if I'm having AF with it or if it's the BCP. But the first few weeks, I bleed through the pill, so I think maybe my Actos was fighting with it. It had been a year since I had AF.

I don't get sick with the Actos at all. I'm on 30mg. I have heard that it's harder to loose weight with Actos, but I have lost 62lbs since August, so I don't find that to be true either. One thing to watch, if your feet start to swell, tell your doctor. It's a side effect. Mine swell, but it has nothing to do with Actos.

I hope it works for you dear. PM me if you need anything.
Hugs
Julie

I was just switched from met to actos a little over a week ago. I was on met for well over two years and while I started getting af regularly, I hardly ever ovulated. When I felt like my symptoms were getting worse instead of better, my gyn ran some tests and sure enough, my bloodwork (hormone levels) had gotten much worse. Now I'm on actos and already feel soooo much better. No side effects, and the sugar cravings are gone!
