I was put on Met last May, AF came like clockwork every 33 days following (this is definitely a first for me). During this time period I have lost 30 pounds. My last period was early November, so I am overdue now, and my weight loss has stopped all together. My Met dosage is 1000mg. I'm just wondering if I am at a point that I should increase my dosage to see if AF will come. (I am not pg).
Are you following any particular way of eating. I found my first year or so on met, my periods were on and off until I started eating to control my insulin. I was counter-acting the drug by spiking my insulin while Met was trying to lower it. If you exercise it helps too.
Also, what do your hormone labs look like? Your Dr should be running regular bloodwork to see if your hormones are improving and determine if your dose is still effective. Some women can do fine on a lower dose, but others require 1500 to 2550 to see real change...some of us have hormones that require TNT to move.
See where your labs are at and you'll know if the drug is still effective. Good luck!

Say Christy--I have a question for you. I did look on your metformin faq sticky, but couldn't get my question asked.
How do we know what bcp's are progestin only????
I'm on yasmin and have no idea if it is the wrong kind or not.
Also I'm not sure if this has anything to do with met/bcp but I'm pretty sure it is. Since being on the met my (desire) is non-existant. This is not like me. I'm sure I was more willing before because my testosterone levels were so high, but I don't want to be like this either. Also i"ve heard that bcp's can cause a decreased (desire) level so I'm wondering if I should change that too. But then I'm wondering what bcp is right! aghghgwhew....sorry for the questions, but I just thought if you knew a few more faq's off the top of your head.
My dr. wants me to stay on the bcp's to stop cysts from forming and I'm not trying to get preg. so that's ok. Sorry to find you at this thread, but i tried to email you and it woudln't let me.

If you don't know if your BCP is low progesterone or not, I'd talk to your perscribing Dr about it.
BCP were the number one factor in my hormones getting bungled and so my treatment is free of BCP-pills, so I haven't done any recent research on them. I wasn't willing to sythetically move my hormones anymore, I wanted my body to start doing it myself. I'd discuss it with your Dr.//I can't be much help sorry..maybe someone sle can enlighten you.
Re: Desire...Met lowered my libido, but like you I was *nuts* before due to the high testosterone. Now I have a normal libido. Again, it warrants a talk with your Dr to rule out other things.
Hope it helps!
