Points: 2,101.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,101.00 | Met and AF's Just confused... I started on met the end of October and finally the beginning of Dec got an AF after about 3 1/2 months. I then got it 7 weeks later, the end of January. So I thought for sure this month, things would be sooner! But this sunday will be another 7 weeks! My endochronologist was concerned about putting me on met before our wedding in oct because of the high rise in fertility and didn't want me to regret getting pregnant. I doubt I am, but just wondering.. I thought after a few months, this stuff would've got me a little more regular. After reading all this stuff about ovulating, i'm confused about eveyrthing I've ever known.. People talk of having ultrasounds and cycts and how they've ovulated for the first time ever- I thought one always ovulated just before having their AF. I'm so baffled.. I'd go see my endo, but ti takes forever to get in, and then she reminds me a little of Judge Judy.. Frank and to the point. Friendly, but you feel rushed ya know? But she's awesome so I don't want ot look elsewhere. But she said "Come back if you want to concieve and can't". I've never had an ultrasound, she diagnosed me throuhg blood and urine tests after me being tested by my regular physician for other things. So I have to go back to refill my perscription before July, cuz then I'm having a breast reduction and won't be mobile for awhile. What kind of things should I be asking her? I'm not TTC yet, although secretly I wish I was. Should I be on something like CLomid just to regulate my cycle? I'm soooooooooo confused.... SOMEONE HELP ME with these questions! I'm so frustrated...

Firstly -- I"m going to recommend a book that was VERY helpful to me when I was first diagnosed with PCOS in September of 2002 -- I read it cover to cover. It's called "PCOS: The Hidden Epidemic" by Dr. Samuel Thatcher I think most of your questions will be answered in that book.
That said -- the Glucophage/Metformin takes awhile sometimes to kick in. For some people, it's immediate, for others, it takes a bit longer. Our bodies are all different. I definitely felt the side effects of nausea the first couple of months, and lost a few pounds. However, my cycles didn't reach a normal 28 day cycle until last month (that's 4 months of Glucophage). I'm doing blood tests to determine whether or not I've ovulated, but my doctor is pretty sure I probably have. Before the Glucophage, I had a 21 day cycle and thought that I was ovulating, but really I wasn't (my ultrasound showed I hadn't been ovulating).
Clomid really doesn't do anything _for_ your PCOS, as far as I know. It really is a fertility drug, which can help you ovulate, but doesn't treat your PCOS. Wait a bit for your Glucophage/Metformin to kick in. If you are not ttc, your doctor may even put you on birth control pills (which may help your PCOS).
Try readnig the above book -- it looks intimidating, but it is a very good resource.

Points: 2,101.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,101.00 | Thanks I've heard about that book through others too and got an amazing deal of of Amazon.ca for it plus a second book on PCOS diets that saved me like 15$ if I bought the two.. Chapters was selling just that book for like $39.00 Canadian, and this set together was $48 - each book was around 24 each. Anyhow, thanks for the advice.. It's frustrating mostly cuz what I always thought was ovulating when one had a period, I've been mistaken. How do Iknow if i've ever ovulated then?! I'm hoping to have some answers when I get this book and hopefully book an appointment with my doctor before the summer starts to see where things are.. I know it takes awhile for this met to take effect but I read of everyone's cycles around the 29-40 days marks, and I'm going on 60 plus now, which is longer than the last one and think that's out of whack since I thought it was supposed to decrease.. We'll see what happens I guess. Thanks for the advice on the book and looking forward to getting it!

(and having semi-regular ones at that too -- they were just 21 day cycles, which is short though). Not true, I guess. PCOS is a _syndrome_ which means a collective set of symptoms...it's different for everyone.
