Default Met and AF - Your Experiences

Hi Everyone,

I just started Met (currently 1000mg but working up to 1500mg). I just had a progesterone-induced AF, but my RE hopes the Met will start to regulate me. Before this my last AF was months ago!
I'm wondering what everyone's experiences have been related to AF. Specifically:

1. What were your cycles like before Met?
2. How long did it take for Met to regulate your cycles?
3. What are your cycle lengths like now?
4. Do you generally ovulate w/o fertility meds?

Thanks for taking the time to answer!!

Jessie

Hey, I'm new here. I just thought I'd post a reply, since I've been taking met for awhile now.

1. What were your cycles like before Met? When I got off BCP, no af for 3 months. I took provera to induce af. I started met two months later. I've still never had a period that wasn't induced by provera. I've been taking met for 9 months

2. How long did it take for Met to regulate your cycles? I'm still waiting.

3. What are your cycle lengths like now?

4. Do you generally ovulate w/o fertility meds? I started taking injectables this past cycle and the nurse said that, from the meds, I will start Oing and get af if I don't get pg.

Hey Jessie! Unfortunately, I'm one of the ones that met doesn't regulate. But, it helps out with other things (less acne, stops the sugar highs and lows, seems to have curbed a little of the hair loss) so I stick with it.

My cycles are non-existant unless I induce with progesterone. I don't ovulate unless on fertility meds (although I do ovulate on soy!). My cycles using NPC have been averaging 25-26 days.

I hope you're one of the lucky ones that met works wonderfully for! Good luck!!!

1. What were your cycles like before Met?

Non-existent. After I went off BCP, I didn't get Af on my own without provera for several years.

2. How long did it take for Met to regulate your cycles?

I was on the drug for over a year and things happened on their own, but VERY irregularly (28-70+ days). When I finally got serious about eating to control my insulin and exercising regularly, it was like a whole new drug and a whole new body.

3. What are your cycle lengths like now?

28-32 days like clockwork.

4. Do you generally ovulate w/o fertility meds?

We are not TTC, so I don't take OPK, but I know I'm O'ing. For one thing, my male and female hormones are all normal now but my cycles are also extremely regular. Anovulatory cycles are usually quite long and the period that follows tends to be long and heavy (not the case for me anymore), so I'm convinced I'm O'ing normally. Given how hard it was for me to get pregnant with my son 6 years ago, it's so ironic that I'm as fertile as Eve now that we're done having babies.

I've been on Met for 5 months but it has not helped me in any way... but I figure now it's really time to make an effort and lose some weight....

I started met/ avandamet in feb and have lost a lot of weight about 10lbs (I havent been very sincere about my diet!) but AF is still nowhere near regular. I used to have about 7-8 cycles a year and they are still the same.

About ovulation, I had concieved on clomid.

I have been on Met since the beginning of January. That cycle ended 20 days after I started Met (which was CD40). Since then my cycles have been 37 days and then 35 days. I had regular cycles up to my early 20s when I went on BCP. When I went off BCP last May I had normal cycles for about 2 months, and then they got progressively longer, until October/Nov/Dec when it took Provera for me to start. I have been watching my carb intake and trying to exercise more. We are giving met 6 months before we move up to clomid.
