Just a quick question from someone who likes to worry too much. Is it okay to take both Metformin and antidepressants at the same time. I currently take 2000 mg/daily of Met and starting Lexapro?
I have the triple whammy going - Met, Celexa and Synthroid - and don't have any problems!
They are fine to take together!

Those of you on both, have you had problems losing weight? While I was taking met and lexapro I didn't lose anything. Though I was only taking 1000 mgs of met so that might have been why.

I've had no trouble losing weight. In fact, just the opposite...the weight is literally falling off me since I've started Met. I'm on 1500mg working up to 2000mg.
I feel like I haven't "earned" it, since it has been practically effortless. Since late October, I've lost 30lbs.
Ok, well, I am careful about what I eat to avoid "Met Gut", but other than that, effortless.

My understanding regarding Met and losing weight is that the more you actually need the Met, the more effects you will have by taking it. If your body is truly insulin resistant and your body (weight) has been effected because of this when you take Met and this problem resolves then you should actually lose weight. At least in most cases! If, however, this isn't a major problem for you and the Met doesn't make drastic changes in your metabolic system, then you won't see many side effects from taking the medicine. At least this is the explanation I was given. HTH.
I'm on week 3 of Met (still in the process of increasing my dose) and my third month of Wellbutrin XL. Up until about the last week I haven't had any problems.
I'm sort of confused.. AF came (for the first time in a year and without the help of BC - yay!) six days ago. I have become progressively irritable, moody (including being flat) and weepy this week. Now, I know this is normally associated with AF, but what concerns me is that it is getting worse over the week even now while AF is tapering off. Thursday I just increased the Met from 1000 to 1500mg and I definitely have been feeling the side effects of that. I am nauseous (especially in the morning), tired and having headaches. My question is... is it possible for the Met to sort of counteract what the antidepressants are doing? Or is this just a coincidence with the timing of AF and upping my dose? Anyone experienced anything like this?? I should also mention that I have an appt. with my psychiatrist on Tuesday so he will probably be able to answer these questions; I just wanted some opinions from you ladies who are the real experts!

It's possible that my Met dosage may be upped soon (1st appt. with an ob/gyn after being diagnosed with PCOS, but I've been on 1000mg of Met for about 6 months and the anti-depressant for about a month), so I don't know how that may effect anything, but so far so good. Or at least better.
