Hello everyone,
It has been quite some time since I have been online. I am 36 weeks pregnant- thanks to the Met!
I went off the MEt when I found out I was pregnant but I am planning on nursing for at least a year. Does anyone know the effects of Met on nursing? Your expertise is much appreciated
While there seem to be a lot of differing ideas about met and pregnancy, I don't have any experience with that myself.
I did experience though, that the hormones associated with breastfeeding seemed to keep my PCOS symptoms at bay until DS started to wean.
You might want to see how you feel before starting back on met. I had a definate time when I started feeling different, gaining weight rapidly, and missing periods (my periods came back when DS was about 10mos)--that is actually when I got diagnosed.
Hope this helps!
Tamara

I can't remember where but there are studies about this. The amount of met passed in breast milk is negligable. I went back on met when DS was 8 wks old. Pam
My OB, & RE both said it was ok to take while bfing as less than 3% is passed through bm. I started back on it when my twins were 5 months old and bf them till they were 18 months with no ill effects to them. Also Dr. Glueck (Jewish Hospital in Cincinatti) published a study a while back confirming this. I don't have a link but I bet your could google it or email him personally.
Hi! I posted the studies I could find on met/breastfeeding on the FAQ thread. The most recent info on met/breastfeeding looks really promising...there is links on the FAQ to studies indicating that about 0.28 % of the drug passes to the infant, leaving it well within the acceptable limits. Definetly check out the links if you need more detail.
All the best!

I am breastfeeding my 18 month old daughter and I'm on Met. I am very well educated in meds and breastfeeding because I have a lot of health problems. I am actually on 3 prescription meds. I researched and determined the benefits outweigh the very minute risk.
