I am also on armour thyroid. Could my dose of met be too high now that i'm getting my thyroid regulated.
Also I'm not IR, but ultrasounds have shown the met has helped with reducing the amount of cysts on my ovaries.
Thanks for any input. |

My Mood: Points: 1,540.94 Bank: 14,185.34 Total Points: 15,726.29 | I totally have this problem. I've always had low blood sugar, and Met bottoms me out. Lately it hasn't been so bad, but when I first started taking Met I had to be very careful about when and what I ate, or my blood sugar dipped way down. My DH has learned to know what's going on when I can't talk, break out in a cold sweat and look at him like my life depends on a Dr. Pepper. For some reason, it's been a lot better lately. We started milling our own wheat and that may be helping, though. As for ravenous hunger, I find this also makes me nauseous as well. This happens more in the morning than at night, and can get quite bad. Good luck with figuring it all out!

And the hunger is your brain's signal to the body that there isn't enough sugar...that's why diabetics with uncontrolled sugars can really gain weight..their brain's signals areballistic.
I find eating small meals often (every 3 hours or so) really helps with blood sugar.
Feel better!

Points: 2,172.89 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,172.89 | I am having this problem as well. I eat 6 times a day with no more than 30 grams of carbs per meal balanced with protien (I follow the insulin resistant diet). I am only on 500 of Met but am having really bad Hypo. I seem to only be able to do well with increased sugar intake (not the bad kind but grains etc...) I am not wanting to go too far off the IR diet though and am wondering how many carbs others eat to stay stable.
With the IR I am not suppose to exceed 30grams in a two hour period.
Thanks

My Mood: Points: 885.02 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 885.02 | Metformin Hi
When I was put on Metformin I became hypoglycemic. Extremely tired, foggy, weak. I was peeing out of my rear and vomiting. I had to completely change how I ate. I stick to foods with a low glycemic index and cut out white rice and white flour. I also limit sugary foods and drinks. I also make sure to eat 3 meals a day and 3 snacks a day. Seriously increase your fiber intake. I try to get the daily 30 grams with the help of benefiber and flax seed. It helps to balance my blood sugar level. Still trying to eat better but it is hard to undo a lifetime of bad eating habits.
I am on 1500 mg of Metformin per day, 500 at each meal.
I am trying to get pregnant so I suffered through it. Had a horrible time trying to loose weight but since Met, I've lost a pound a week. No more vomiting and bowels are back to normal (kind of). I have been on it for 2 months now. Slowly trying to follow the diet in A Patient's Guide to PCOS.

My Mood: Points: 4,946.82 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,946.82 | I've been having weird symptoms since upping my met back to 1500. I had very minimal s/e's with 1000 mgs, and when I went to 1500, I was ok the first day, but second suffered a hypoglycemic attack. It was awful-pounding heart, cold sweat, incredibly nauseus, etc. I've been feeling incredibly tired and fatigued all week, and nauseaus after I eat. It's a little scary. My husband and I are TTC, so I'm soldiering through it, but I really want to stop taking it soon. I have ovulated the past 2 months on it, but between business trips and the holidays, well, BFNs. Maybe Xmas!?
Any tips for how to handle these s/e's? Are they even normal?
