Is anyone constipated on the Met ER? I am one of the people that have to use the toilet twice a day and I was never even close to constipated. Now I stated the met 2 days ago (1000 working up to 1500) and I have yet to have a BM.
I also feel swollen in the hands and feet. I am going to email the Dr and see what she says about taking a water pill just until I adjust to the meds.
Oh yea, I am not having any of the stomach problems that all of you spoke about. Did it take a while for you to start having the symptoms? I am praying that I am one of the lucky ones without the side effect from the met.
I've had this same problem. I have been attributing it to the fact that I also take spironolactone and that is a diuretic so I thought I might be getting a little dehydrated which can make you constipated. So I've started drinking A LOT more water and it's gotten better.
That is wonderful that I am not the only one. I too have started with more water. Sometime I think I am going to drown. I too have been taking a diaretic (OTC). I feel like my hands and feet are a little swollen. I called my Dr and she felt it would be ok for a while.
As I mentioned on another thread, I'm also having the same problem with constipation on Met. My gastroenterologist is having me try a very good probiotic, so at least that helping a little with the constipation and the bloating. Like others here, I'm trying to drink more water than I usually do, too.
If I really start feeling plugged up, I can always resort to drinking "Smooth Move" tea...it really flushes out the bowels but it's not near as harsh as laxatives.
I think part of my problem is that, before the Met I would "go" 2-3 times a day, it was not diarhea, but it was not firm (I know tmi). So going 1 time every day or sometimes every other day is such a change from what I am used to. I have been drinking more water, if that is posible. It seems to be helping, however I was all ready for the "tummy" problems this just suprised me.
I went through the same thing. Before Met I went quite frequently, and it was usually pretty lose. Went I started on Met I was terrified of the diarhea, but instead got constipated. What a surprise. It went away after about 10 days and I'm fine now. If anything, I may be a little better off than I was before Met.
