My Mood: Points: 6,168.12 Bank: 296,223.13 Total Points: 302,391.25 | Met doesn't appear to be working for me! I've been on metformin for 9 months now and I don't feel that it's helping at all. I haven't been able to lose any weight nor am I having periods. I see my OB every couple months. When I saw him last time he said he needs to get my thyroid under control and then we'll go from there. I am not that patient lol I want to snap my fingers and have things how I want them. I know this isn't an option and I'll have to wait it out. Have any of you been on metformin for a good length of time and not had it do anything?
Thanks!

It's amazing what the thyroid can affect. As for met, imo the only way to find if it's 'working' is to have blood tests done, like fasting insulin, glucose tolerance test, etc. Also, what dose are you taking? Most here don't find it effective until at least 1500 mg. My labs were good at 1500, but going to 2000 (I take the extended release) was when I started getting my period again. It took about a year for this to happen. And I did have to take provera to get things started the first cycle. I was so envious of those who saw immediate effects. lol
Anyway, get your thyroid under control and hopefully from there the weight loss and period will come. Good luck!

Actually I had a 5 day period every other week!! I had to go on birth control so I could stop having so many periods. I have not lost any weight at all. I am due to have all my labs checked in July.

I'm on 1700 mg metformin. I started at 1000 and went up to 1700 back in January. I have my labs tested every 6 to 8 weeks. I'm due tomorrow to check my thyroid. He up'ed my dosage of synthroid (i cant remember what it is without checking the bottle) last time and he's gonna see if it's where it should be now. I hope to get answers tomorrow! My sister is due any day with her third child...I'm really jealous lol I can't wait until it's my turn!! |

I was lucky, they caught my thyroid before it got too low and it took about 10 weeks for it to get in a good range. My DH, on the other hand, he has constant problems with his. Just last year, his tsh was in the 60's! That took months to get his back under control. Anyway, hope you get some good news. And congrats on your new niece or nephew-to-be too.
