Hi Girls. I am new to all of this. Just diagnosed in January. I just started taking Met 500 mg and then next week go to 1000 mg. I am wondering if this is low even though I am not the typical weight PCOSer. We have been trying to conceive since 5/03. I had 2 great cycles right after stopping BCPs and then 1 56 dayer and then nothing. I did 1 round of 50 mg clomid and now my gyn wants to up to 100 mg but I am seriously considering just letting the Met do its thing. Any support would be great!
I'm a thin cyster (5'0" and 103 lbs) and am now taking 2,000 MGs of Glucophage XR. I just found out today that I am not IR (fasting insulin = 2), but my endo wants to keep me at 2,000 MGs.
I was originally put on 500 MGs by my OBGYN, but my endo said that dosage was too low and increased it. The lower dosage may work for both of you, but you might see better results at a higher dose. I do think my lower dose helped a bit (more stable BBT temps overall and possible O this cycle).
And, I just had a whole bunch of lab work done, and most of my levels were fairly normal. Slightly high free testoserone, and an somewhat "off" LH:FSH ratio - but nothing so out-of-whack that the doc felt comfortable officially diagnosing me with PCOS! And, these labs were run when I was taking 500 MGs a day. I'm hopeful that the meds are working and that the increased dose will make me "normal."
I'd talk to your doc about upping the dose. I don't think the amount per day really should be tied to weight - rather tied to what produces the most benefit for your individual situation. Just my two cents!
Good luck!
Lissa

i was started at 500, then went up to 1000. after a couple days at 1500, i stopped taking it, because i needed to be well enough to go to school everyday, and 1500 was making me a bit sick.
the gradual increase is supposed to help you from getting too sick. i'm sure i wouldn't have stayed sick for long at the 1500 dosage, but i didn't have the time to find out.

hello
i'm 4'11 and weight 105lb's and i'm on 1500gm once a day. i also am not IR. but have the ring of cysts on my ovaries, achne and no ovulation. my doctor explained this is what he starts all of his patients on then goes from there. this is my first month on glucophage i hope it works for me. i was told it takes 2-3 months to work. has anyone heard similar things about this.
good luck to all

i'm been on 1000 mg of metXR for 2 months now, but i haven't seen much difference just yet; i still had to take progesterone to get last af, so i am still waiting for the met to affect my cycles. this dosage gives me a stomach ache every few days or so, but that's the only thing that lets me know that anything is happening. i am wondering if my dose should go up...
how long before your doctors moved you up form your first dosage? do you have to do more bloodwork before they will bump you up? i just had a liver function test which came back totally normal.

Not sure if anyone has had this response.... but I was on 2000 of Glucophage xr for almost 5 months and I didn't respond. My levels got better, but I never came close to ovulating. I was also on dexamethasone. I'm 5'7 and a 135-40 pounds and am not IR. MY new doctor isn't using met with my injectable cycles because he says I'm not IR and at this point I agree with him. I am still on dexamethasone though.

i'm only on my first month of met xr, so the increase has not been needed, but my doctor explained to me that it is up to me how aggressive we get with medication and how fast because i'm only 24. i do believe i have found an excellent endocrinologist. i hope others are as luckey. Also he told me if the met did not work then he would try a ovulation medication with the met. Then if that does not work injectables is the next step for me.
I'm working up to the highest dosage (850 mg 3x/day). When I questioned my doctor about this dosage he told me that there was a recent study done that is published in Fertility and Sterility showing that this highest dosage tends to work faster and be more effective. I don't have the actual reference, but it might be worth checking out.
Cheers.

MY ENDO HAS ME ON 500 MG A DAY, I'M NOT TTC SO MAYBE THAT HAS SOMETHING TO DO W/ IT...HE JUST WANTS ME TO TAKE IT SO THAT I CAN KEEP MY INSULIN LEVEL...BUT HE ALSO SAID B/C I AM SO THIN THAT HE DOESN'T WANT ME TO LOSE ANY WEIGHT, HE ACTUALLY WANTS ME TO GAIN 15 LBS, SO HE WON'T INCREASE IT ANYWAY.
