is there a certain metformin dose needed to affect your periods? I am on 500mg twice a day and have not seen a change in my periods. Should I try to increase to 500mg in AM and 1000mg at night?

everyone is different but i started met a few weeks ago, 500mg week one, week 2 1000mg, week 3 1500 mg. i got AF a few days after being on 1500mg. not sure if it was the met or not. if your dr suggested 1500mg then you should up the dose, if he didnt i would not up it.
I got AF right after I ramped up to 1000mg. I'm now on 1500mg. I was very regular on met until the last couple of months, so I'm thinking about going up to 2000mg. I think it can take some time to find the "sweet spot" for your body.
My last 3 cycles were 50 days, 49 days, and 48 days. I do not ovulate (and have a period) at all without a medication of some sort. I am currently only on Glucophage, Fish Oil, and Multivitamin.
I was on 1500XR for the first 2 cycles and I upped my dose to 2000XR on the 5th day of my 3rd cycle...which didn't really shorten the 3rd cycle.
I'm now on my 4th cycle but only 9 days in....I have another thread that I'm updating every time I get my period for other women who are curious about cycle length in relation to increasing amounts of Glucophage (at least my story). I take the brand Glucophage, not the generic Met.
I am on 1000mg and I just got my first ovulation on metformin. I was on 1500mgs and 2000mgs from Sept.08 until Jan. 09 and didn't have neither an o or af. So what I can say is, you will have to experiment with dosages and see which dosage works best for your body. Some women work great on 1500mg while others 1000mg.
