I am needing advice on beginning Met. How much would a person start out and for how long before moving to the next dosage. I am arming myself with "wisdom" before I speak with my dr. Thank YOu |

From what I've read and researched, the minimum effective dosage is 1500mg's daily. Because you don't want to throw it all into your system right away, it's pretty common for a doctor to prescribe 500mg's daily the first week, 1000mg's daily the second week, and then 1500mg's the third. That's what I did and it made the side effects a little less harsh. The maximum dosage you're supposed to take is 2550mg's if I'm not mistaken. I would start at 1500mg's and then from your lab results determine whether to increase the dosage or not, but I'm sure your doctor will decide depending on you coz everybody's different. Good luck!

The dosing suggestions are right on, but the Maximum dosage of Met is 2550 mg per day, not 2250.

Glucaphage xr is the same as Met and is easier on the tummy. You should ask your dr about it.

I started Gluc XR last night ... my RE's had asked my weight prior to getting back to me (not sure if that matters) I started the 500mg week 1 1000mg week 2 and 1500 week 3. I was told to schedule and IR and glucose test after being on it 6 weeks.. just adding in my 2 cents
