When I went from 500mg to 1000mg my ears went wacco. I thought it might have been the met but my dr. assured me it was not. I felt like my ears needed to pop but wouldnt then it made me so dizzy I could not pick my head off the pillow for 2 days. I had a lot of pressure in my ears and it drove me crazy for 3 days.
Is this what you are feeling?

Nicole that describes what I get. I thought it might be the Met but dismissed the idea. My ears felt blocked/congested in a weird groggy way. Wow I hope we get more replies about this.

Yes, that is exactly what I am feeling. I feel like I just got off an airplane and I cannot get rid of the popping and the pressure.
On occassion, the pressure gets so bad that my ear begins to ache. I saw some literature on the internet that mentions ear congestion as a met side affect although my doctor and my pharm. both have assured me that they have never heard of anyone have these symptoms from met.
If not met. what else could it be? It seems to be the one thing we all have in common. Hopefully, more cysters will provide us with similar information.
The same thing has been happening to me. I thought it was a recurring ear infection because I did have one a few weeks ago. But, now that I have read this thread I think it could be the metformin. I also have been feeling tired and get like hot flashs, I guess these are all side effects of metformin. I thought I was doing well because I didn't have a lot of the other side effects some people were having, but now that my ears feel weird and I'm sweating like crazy, I'm starting to think it is the metformin. I hope the side effects go away soon. Thank goodness for this forum because at we know were not alone. Have a Merry Christmas every one. Does anyone know how long it takes to stop having side effects and the med to start working?
Ladies, I went to my primary care physician today. He checked my ears and told me that there was no inflammation and I showed no signs of an ear infection. He gave me some allergy medicine to try and if the pain doesn't subside, he recommends a ENT doctor.
My primary care physician wasn't that familiary with Met. and couldn't say that it might be a side effect of this drug. However, since there are a number of cysters with the same symptom, it has to be the Met.!!!!
