Default Met and Eggs?

Hi all!
I received my prescription for met yesterday (500 mg/day to start). I'm both excited and anxious about taking it. I read through the side effects thread and one of the recurring foods to avoid is eggs! This will pose a real problem for me, b/c omelettes are my go-to food for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I've been doing the low carb diet for a while and found that an omelette with lots of veggies and maybe turkey and cheese is the perfect meal. Is there anyone that did not have an adverse reaction with eggs? Also, is it just whole eggs or egg whites? Any info will be appreciated. I plan to start taking it tonight.

Thanks!

It pretty much varies from person to person what foods cause problems. The main culprits though are greasy foods and high carb and sugary foods.
You find what you can and can't tolerate around these groups as you go along. I have never had an egg problem.

I do low-carb (high protein & fat) and eat eggs pretty regularly and have never had a problem.

I had a friend who is also on Met and she did an experiment and ate some cookies one night and then she had the bathroom problems the next morning. So, my guess is that high carb/sugar foods do the damage.

Well, I'm going to pretty much repeat what everyone else said but the high carb/high sugar seemed to do it for me. I eat eggs all the time and continued eating them when I first started the met with no problems...however, i couldn't even eat a whole apple at first! The side effects do go away though, so even if you do have problems with eggs now, it may lessen.

My RX info didn't mention eggs. I just started Met XR last month so I looked it over carefully. I also eat eggs almost every day. The only thing that has bothered me stomachwise is the last week when I increased to 1000mg I must stop if I fill full not one more bite. I had two bites of PB toast left felt full ate it and felt awful the next hour or so. In general I really haven't had side effects but I'm watching my carbs especially refined and eating protein. My appetite has really gone down.

This is the first I've heard about eggs. Maybe it's because they're high in B vitamins...but for me my stomach would always get messed up if I ate anything sugary or high carb. Fast food was pretty much off limits too.

I don't know anything about eggs... I haven't had a problem with them. I haven't had very many, but no problems when I do. The only thing that makes me feel yucky is sugar. I can't have sugar in anything any more, not in a drink or food or anything I start to feel sick right away. Also, with 500mg I had no side effects what-so-ever. I was able to increase to 1000mg right away. After 2 whole days I started on 1000mg, actually, that was only 4 days ago, so I've only been on the metformin for 6 days now. Good Luck!

Thanks for all the input. I hope this works for me as well. I took my first dose last night w/ chicken and veg. So far, so good. I guess the side effects come with higher prescriptions. I had boiled eggs for breakfast so I guess when I take it tonight, I'll find out! I'm already doing the low-carb thing, so sugar is already limited. Maybe I'm just paranoid from all the horror stories I've read about!

I add my voice to those who said that in the beginning is different than later when your body gets used to it. I tried before an omelette made with sunflower oil for breakfast and it gave me a terrible stomach all day. Now, when i make it with olive oil and have it for dinner, I face no problems at all. So from my experience, i think its the kind of oil and the timing. Maybe coz u shouldn't have something so greasy on an empty stomach, plus that olive oil is the healthiest option. Hope this will help.
