Does anyone know... is the met ER dose the same as the regular met dose?? I just had my doctor switch me to the ER version and the pharmacy had it as two 500 mg pills at night. I take 2000 a day. I'm thinking I have to take four of these bad boys.
I'm not positive. A lot of posts i've seen here say that the dosage should be the same. For me, i started on 1500 mg regular met from my gyn. When i went to the endo, he wanted me on 750 er, and said it was equivalent. I'm interested to hear what others say though.
It was the same for me too. Had to take for of those pills. You should take the 2000 like the dr said. I like regular better. ER just releases slowly into your body.

I just switched from regular Met to the ER version. From what I understand, the dose should be the same, but you take it all at once. If that's not true, I'd sure like to know! I have also read that you can still divide the doses if you want to with the ER version.
I was taking 2000mg of regular Met just because I could not remember to take my pills three times a day that the 1500mg dose required. When I found out there was a generic ER version, I decided ask to go back to the 1500mg dose in the ER form. I now take two 750mg ER pills every night with dinner.

Well I was hoping with the ER I'd have less side effects. I only got 14 pills so I could try it out. Its kind of sad my doctors office doesn't even know how much I'm on, since they told me a month ago to up it to 2000 after I had a blood test. *shakes head*
But when I looked at it, it doesn't look like my insurance covered any of the cost, and theres no way I could afford 60 dollars a month
I've been on 2000 mg since Sunday, and I really can't tell how much of the stomach upset is from the met, or just from anxiety and me expecting to have it. I do know for sure that after eating kelbasa Tue night, I felt REALLY sick *haha*
OHH Thank you so much for that bit of info!! I will check it out.
Update: I called my pharmacist (who I used to work with so she always remembers who I am), and she said that:
If I was taking 2000 mg of regular, I'd take 2000 of the ER BUT my doctor, wants me to scale back to the 1000mg and is hoping the extended release will make some sort of difference then the regular 1000 dose did? I don't really know what my doctor is thinking *shrugs* I guess, from what she told Maryann, she only wanted me to take the 2000 mg for two weeks, then scale back to the 1000 anyway.
Why don't doctors tell you this?? Or maybe it's just mine But it seems like she had some sort of secret plan that I had no idea about.
I do however, feel a TON better, knowing that I can stay on a 1000 dose. And I'm excited to start the ER and I really hope that'll tame the side effects.
I had to leave work early today (shortly after making this post) because I got very sick
