It is here... I have been prescribed it... Not sure of the exact name at the moment as I am at work, but I'll look at the bottle when I get home and let you know the brand I am on...
I know people have said it's terrible on their stomach, but I haven't had a problem with it... When my doctor prescribed it she told me start start slowly on it... started with 1/2 a pill 3 times a day for a week and then 1 full pill twice a day for a week... Then went to the full dose of 3 full pills 3 times a day... So I'm not sure if that helped in not making my stomach feel that bad... Also my doctor said shes precribed it to many women and they haven't had any troubles...

It is call Glumetza. Because its time released you shouldn't cut or crush the pill. Its the coating that makes it time release, If you cut it you might as well be taking the regular metformin. Also you can take all 3 pills at once and it doesn't have to be with a meal. I take mine at bedtime.
I'm assuming, I hope not foolishly, since all I've ever been on is extended release that I can easily go from one med to the other. It's all supposed to be same stuff whatever the name, right?

I am taking the generic (I believe)... My doctor was the one who prescibed it as to break the pills and work my way up to the full dose... She never mentioned it being time released.... I never had any problems from the start...

catwoman2005 - If the pill is round and sort of chalky feeling its regular met 500, which needs to be taken with meals and you can cut them. If its oblong and smooth its the extended release, and shouldn't be cut.
dara - you can switch right over and it shouldn't be a problem. But be warned if you don't have a drug plan the ER is MUCH more expensive.
Since we don't have a drug plan here I got my doctor from Nashville to call me in a script so I can get it from Buffalo. My insurance will pay for it that way. If we end up here after this year we're going to have to get some insurance that will cover us locally. This whole "do whatever and we'll reimburse you later" thing is too expensive for my budget! I think I'm going to end up having to drive down there for all my medical care beyond a standard GP.
