Question Met formin and BCPs

Has anyone found using Metformin delays their period while on BCPs? I was instructed by DR. to take 2 weeks of Ortho Tri-cyclen to ward off a cyst. I was also taking Metformin. I stopped taking the BCP about 3 days ago and no sign of AF. Any ideas?

Menses takes a few weeks to a few months to get rolling regularly on just Metformin. Because you have been on the pill, your hormones have been synthetically surged to cover the symptoms, so the met has to lower all of these hormone levels (especially insulin levels which worsen on the pill). Give yourself a few weeks on Met alone and you'll probably see AF return.

Your hormones need time to re-adjust. For me it was 3 months before I saw AF and 12 mos before I saw AF every 31 days, so be patient. Your hormones didn't get whacky overnight and it takes several weeks to get a semblance of regularity on Met.

Good Luck!

Wink I agree....

For some of us, our hormones are so messed up, that BCPs actually sometmes throws a monkey wrench into the whole works. It does take time for those hormones to get back where they should be...be patient, and you should see AF.
