Unhappy MET help needed

I am finally up to 1500 mg (about a week and a half) and now I am sick all of the time. It feels like morning sickness, where the nausea just sticks with you all day........anyways, I don't know what I can do to curb this. I take my met with food, I have cut down on the carbs since that gave me diarehha and I can't shake this sick feeling. I even took a pregnancy test just in case! ha ha ha........any advice?
TIA,
Jessica

My best advice is to just hang in there. I didn't experience any s/e until I hit 1500mg, and then they were brutal--just as you're describing and a little worse. After about 2 weeks at 1500mg, they subsided and I felt well enough to move up to my ultimate dosage of 2000mg. The s/e there was mainly nausea--not as bad as when I first moved to 1500mg. After a few weeks, I'm pretty much back to normal, though I still battle mild nausea from time to time. The only other suggestion I would make is to be sure you're eating substantive foods...I've found whole grains to be my best friend as they fill me up easily (making the Met absorb into my system less brutally) and are bland (which helps with the nausea). Plus, unlike refined, white carbs, they're good for you.

All the best to you!

I had mostly diarrhea with the 1500mg at first. So what I done was took 1000mg one day and then the next day I took 1500mg that is how I worked my way up to 2000mg a day. Good luck and I am sorry you are having the s/e

I've heard that 1500mg is killer! I'm nervous to move up to that much. I haven't had s/e on 500mg or 1000mg so I'm worried once I hit 1500mg, the s/e will hit me too. Good Luck, let me know if you find something that is working for you!

I've been on the 1500 mg for a few weeks now (still need to up to 2000) and the side effects have been very minimal. Had a day of feeling nauseous, and that's about it! I've been following the zone diet, exercising and taking a ton of supplements though, so that might help...

Don't be worried -- you might be OK!

OK, well so far, the nausea hasn't let up. I changed my diet around a little bit. I basically have to force myself to eat though- I just feel so queesy. I am on 1500 mg. I think I am going to stay there, but I sure hope this nausea lets up soon! I hate feeling pregnant without actually being so!

Good luck ladies, I hope you all start to feel better.

Im taking 1500mg of Metformin and I feel like I have morning sickness all day long. I want to eat everything in sight so I starting obsessing that I am pregnant (I wish!!!..lol) and I know that its not true... I even take the Metformin with food and I still feel this way and now my doctor thinks that I should increase the dosage to 2000mgs!!! I've been taking Metform for 6 months now and the nausea still hasnt subsided yet.

Does anyone take that much Metformin? What side effects do you experience??

Default Dealing w/ side effects sticky

Italianprincess: There is a sticky on this forum in which several cysters listed their side effects and suggestions on how to minimize or eliminate them. 2000 mg seems to be the max dosage for most and many had success in dealing with the side effects. I just started met, so I'm only taking 500mg, but I went to that thread first and gained a wealth of knowledge. Here's the link post your tips on dealing with gluc/met side effects. Hope this helps!

I just reached the 2000mg stage. But I have read in several books that it takes the 2000 to really do anything. My doctor says that is the therapeutic dose that gets results. What I want to know is WHEN

i'm sorry if someone has already mentioned this, but i was wondering if you are taking extended release or not. the difference is incredible. i started 1500 on xr right off the bat and only had a semi-upset stomach for a few nights. i was able to kick it up to 2500 in no time. again, sorry if this is redundant...or if you happen to already by on the xr. my best...

I am taking the xr. I am considering asking my doctor for a month's worth of the regular met. I have read that better weight loss results come from that, and my weight gain has been so depressing. I am not losing anything after being on the metxr for three weeks.

Thumbs up

I am taking 3000mg (1000mg 3x a day) with no side effects. I space them 6hrs apart..with food! Make sure you are not taking your doses too close together! I went from 1500mg to 3000 at once as well, no gradual increase! Dont do it, follow your dr! Just dont be scared!
