My understanding is that it is the lowering of insulin that allows the ovaries to function more normally and therefore leads to a lowering of testosterone. I think I read it somewhere that the ovaries can change androgens (male-type hormones) into female-type hormones, and this ability / action is reduced by high levels of insulin.
But I'm no doctor! Anyone know more about this???

Yup! My Testosterone dropped from 4.1 (Cdn values) to 1.6 or below now. It and my Free ANdrogen slowly but surely got down to normal with consistent, exercise, meds and eating to control my insulin.
Anytime you're dealing with a med that lowers insulin, all the other major hormones are going to regulate and follow suit. It's like one Dr I read...he described hormones as being like an orchestra. When one instrument is off, the others start trying to fix it and componsate. Same goes when hormones are normalizing too.
Good luck!
