I felt exactly the same when I started on Met, one of the things that helped me was to stay well hydrated - water, water, and more water. I have low blood pressure as well which when combined with Met was no fun. Alot of dizzy spells and shaky episodes. Eat regularly throughout the day and lay down and put your feet up if you feel shaky. It should regulate over the next week or two but if it'd still a prob after that I'd suggest you see your Dr again. Good luck.

I definitely have hypoglycemic moments where I feel like I am going to faint, but for me I wouldn't say that it is all the time...mainly when I skip a meal...or just go to long without eating. Maybe try to eat small meals/snacks every few hours to help keep your blood sugar balanced.

Okay, so now I'm a bit confused (sorry to hijack this thread!) I thought Met was to treat blood sugar problems, not increase them! I have low blood sugar all the time and for this very reason asked to take Met (though I'm also trying to regulate my cycles). The suggestions here to counteract the hypoglycemia caused by Met are the same things you would do to stop it without the drug. Colour me confused! (I should go change my mood to confused...) Can someone help explain?

I know that family members use Metformin for diabetic reasons only, therefore it would lower and help blood sugar levels.. but in most diabetics dont they struggle with HYPERglycemia?? I dont know either lol.. all i know if my sugars are always low on it!!! HELP SOMEONE! hahahah

I just saw a medical show discussing PCOS. The dr specifically said that too much Met will cause hypoglycemia. Since it is supposed to help sugar levels, if you take too much for your body then you can cause hyperglycemia.

I suggest you speak with your dr again and urge them to do more blood work.

Below is a link that discusses it. Be sure to scroll down to the section entitled "How do I take Metformin?"

If you know any type 2 diabetics....try asking them what they have for snacks. It's helped me a little to mimic the way they eat.

Jessica~ Keep orange juice on stock.. Sometimes I get really bad hypoglycemic episodes in the middle of the night, but after I drink some orange juice it makes me feel better almost instantly.

Yes, you can continue to keep items for quick sugar fix with you such as drinking OJ. But there is a bigger picture you need to be aware of. Too much Metformin will lower you blood sugar level to a hyperglycemic level. The dr should test your fasting insulin/fasting glucose levels if you are having these symptoms.

http://www.drugs.com/metformin.html

Good luck.
I strongly urge you to read up on it and discuss further with your dr.
