Talking Met if not insulin resistant????

Hi ladies!

Can you take Metformin if you are not insulin resistant? I have PCOS but my insulin levels are all ok (the doc said they are actually really good).... so, my question is, would the Met help me ovulate even if I don't have insulin resistant symptoms?

Post Ovulation

I am not Diabetic or IR. Metformin helped me have regular menstrual cycles for the first time ever. (at age 35!)
My PCOS problem is/was elevated Testosterone (Traditional PCOS).
My cycles were 35-45 days with Metformin. After three years my Testosterone levels went up and the hair loss increased. I also started taking an anti androgen. (Flutamide)
Now my cycles are exactly 28 days.

I could have written this part myself. I'm experiencing the exact thing at the same age.

I posted a similar question earlier today...
I am 37 and am just starting Met just to see what will happen.
I have not ovulated on my own since I was a very young teenager (I'm now 36)...no periods on my own, absoutely nothing (any periods I do have are all produced by BC or Provera, none due to ovulating).

I do not test as IR either. I have the high testosterone, too, which also gives me on and off pretty bad acne outbreaks...controlled with BC.

so I would like to hear about this also, as my husband and I are considering trying to conceive again (we already did once with clomid) and ovulating on my own (though VERY VERY unlikey) would be awesome (even though we plan on clomid for this pregnancy, too)

beside the point of trying to get pregnant, having even just like ONE period because I OVULATED would rock.

I have the same problem as all of you ladies! I'm not I/R but I do have high testosterone, hair issues & never had a period on my own. A low GI diet and met worked for me as I got pregnant the first month I used it. Now I will say I really think the diet helped me O more than the met because I was only on it about a week and the diet I had started sooner. But either way a combination of the two has me 5 weeks exactly today. My endo was hesitant to px it but I pushed and I've been taking 500mg twice a day. I'm 34 by the way.

I wish you lots of good luck with it

I am 22, and all of my blood labs came back good, so I am non-IR too. I am still on the 500mg/day but other than losing 18 lbs I really don't see any difference. I have always had a regular cycle with the exception of 2 months over like 2-3 years.
