Default Met Increases?

How often should Met be increased? I feel that my doc is not very educated on PCOS and I am having to tell her the things I know!

Hi

I started at 500a day for one week, then upped it to 1000 a day meaning 500 x a day. Been on this dose for a few years now.

That question doesn't have a hard and fast answer. It's totally dependent on how you react to each particular dosage, and what your physician feels would be the best dose for you. Me, I started on 500mg for about 2 weeks, til the side effects were manageable, then went to 1000. Stayed there for over 7 months, then got a new doctor, who agreed to let me try to get to 2000. So, I've been on 1500 (500 in the morning, 1000 in the night) for two weeks, and zero side effects thus far. As soon as I run out of 500mg pills, I'm going to 2000. I just feel that's going to be the most effective dose for me. Then again, I may get there and it might be too much, and I'll have to back down to 1500, but I highly doubt it.

So, yeah, that probably didn't help a lot. I'd recommend trying to find a good dr in whatever specialty who is at least familiar w/ pcos. I know they're hard to come by, and we often end up educating them ourselves, but its worth looking at least! But let your body be your guide. If you feel fine and not improvement at all on a low dose, see about increasing a bit. But again, listen to yourself, and try to find a doctor to help you!

Best of luck!

I was on 500mg once a day a dinner time for 3 days. Then upped it to 500 twice a day, once with lunch and dinner. I had to wait a little longer to go to three times a day because the jump from 500 to 1000 and I just couldn't do it. I finally went up to 500 three times a day after about a week. Still feeling side effects, but they are lessening. I think that it just really depends on how you react to the drug. Listen to your body, it will let you know.

what is the big difference in upping the dosage for those who have upped it? I started out on 1500 mgs a day 6 months ago and am still on it. My cycles have been as follows:

1--50 days
2--56 days
3--29days
4--36 days
currently on day 31 of cycle 5. Do you think if I upped to 2000 my cycles would become shorter? Dh and I are talking about ttc #2 and I just am not ready to do the clomid yet.

sorry to hijack your thread.
