Hi,

I'm taking glucophage 500 mg, 2X/day. I have a UTI and I called the RE whose nurse told me to buy a antibiotic called NIBIOL which is composed of something called Nitroxoline (I don't live in the US, so I didn't need a prescription). The pamphlet says not to take the med if you have kidney probs, which I don't. Since this med and met appear to be cleared out of your body through the kidneys, is this going to interact with the Met? The pharmacist didn't think so but I'm always so nervous. Has anyone had a problem taking antiobiotics with met?

I would so appreciate any advice. You ladies always know so much. Thanks

Anne, I have never seen any drug interactions listed for Met and antibiotics. Even though they are both cleared through the kidneys, you will only be on the antibiotic for a relatively short period of time, so I don't think there is any reason to worry.

Other meds: Verapamil and Altace(for blood pressure)
Started laser hair removal 7/29/03, completed 3/04 (it works!)
UAE for fibroid 3/24/03 and 3/16/04
