Question Met and little alcohol?

Hi cysters!. I'm taking 1000 Met a day. Never been into alcohol but before Met I used to have one or two wine coolers, a pina colada, or a fruity drink once in a blue moon.
Will it be okay if I have one or two drinks in one night? Probably a fruity alcohol drink. I've read some info here already. Read it's recommended to drink slow and have your drink with food?
Will it be best to skip my Metformin dose the day I drink?
Thanks!

Hi Mari

A little bit of alcohol is OK, but as you already know, definitely with food.
I learnt the hard way not to drink too much with met. In my second week of taking met I was at a party and wasn't eating much, trying to stay away from the high GI snacks (I had decided to wait for the supper before eating). Well I had 3 small glasses of wine in as many hours and I got so drunk that I passed out. Needless to say I was really embarassed (lol) as this would not have been too much for me before the met.

So my advice would be to keep it to a little alcohol.

Follow your body's lead. 2 drinks is certainly within the acceptable limits for metformin in one night, but I personally wouldn't be able to stomach 2 drinks on met. As long as you are eating with it and drinking slowly and feeling fine, your 2 drink guide sounds just fine.

I wouldn't suggest going off the met, though. Without it, you are leaving your blood sugar uncontrolled and can make things for worse for youself in how you feel. Your body needs the insulin regulated as much as possible to keep you from feeling awful.

Have fun and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

About two weeks ago, I had 2 glasses of wine and broke out into a sudden sweat.

Last weekend (I don't learn) I went clubbing and had 2 glasses of hypnotic. I got diarrhea. I had to leave the club.

hpnotic It's a new drink--similar to alize. It's kind of aqua or torquise in color. I love it!

Red face Thank You!!!

Thanx for all your wonderful advice I managed to have a little alcohol on Friday and made it through the weekend! *HUGZ*
I had an upset stomach that would come and go through most of it, but I made it! ^___^
I only had two glasses and was beginning to get a little buzed and hot so I stopped but felt fine.
