Question met to lose weight

ok so i've heard a lot about met to help with infertility but does it also help you lose weight? and get regular again? my doc wants me to go back on birth control pills which i've been off for over 2 years now since i found out that they decrease you fertility. i want to start trying to a baby soon so i don't want to go back on birth control but i do want to lose this weight that pcos has packed on me. can met help me do that and increase my fertility?

I went off met about two months ago and went to see a nutritionist. Both the nutritionist and an RN told me a similar fact. That metformin is equal to what one hour of exercise does for your insulin.

So I take that as - If I am on metformin it will aid in losing weight. The metformin is doing what it is supposed to and exercise is then allowing me to lose weight. Without exercise it will basically maintain my weight.

Looking back on my four years on metformin this was true. When I would exercise I lost, when I did nothing I stayed the same. And when I went off met I gained 10 pounds. I will be going back on :-)

I had never heard of met being compared to one hour of exercise! I lost 30 lbs on WW but have gained 10-15 of it back. I did that without met but I really feel as much as I was working out and sticking to the diet I should have lost more. I have a new doc who specializes in PCOS and infertility so we are going to talk about me doing the higher doses of met. I did it for a short period of time but only 500 a day for like three weeks.

I would encourage everyone to read the existing research on specifically how metformin works in the body in some women with pcos.

The links are in an above post.
