I agree with sheepie -- it shouldn't cause you to become hypoglycemic. This is from a pharmacology source I have: "At therapeutic doses, metformin does not cause hypoglycemia in diabetic or nondiabetic individuals." Met just acts to increase the effects of your already present insulin so that your pancreas doesn't have to make as much, and your organs are more sensitive to it.
On the other hand, I have always had reactive hypoglycemia, for whatever reason. I also always have a snack on hand all the time in case I start to feel shaky. The met doesn't seem to have made this worse, but coffee/caffiene sure does, so watch your caffeine intake. It is strange that your sugar dropped AFTER you ate... you may have something else going on entirely. Or else Met really does affect you... don't have any good answers, sorry!
