Default Met and Low Carb

Hi I just recently started Met. I am only taking 1/day right now and I am supposed to increase my dosage slowly until I reach 1500mg/ day.

I have no energy, headaches, and all the same stomach issues most people have on Met. My question is about the energy? Could I be eating too low carb? I am eating around 30-40 grams of carbs/ day.

Yikes! It depends on the diet you following, but I would be flat out on the floor with carbs that low. Anything less than about 90 and I am completely lethargic and dream about cookies day and night!

The truth is, you can still lose weight with carbs in your life. It just might be slightly slower than if you extremely low carb. I have lost 33% of my body weight averaging 75-90 g carb a day. If it were me, I'd increase my carbs, and include whole grain and fruit/veggie carbs. You'll feel so much better and still be able to shed those pounds.

Good luck!

Honey, I would eat a horse and chase the rider if I ate that little in carbs. Funny thing is, once your insulin starts working the way it should, I tend to feel a little "funny" if I go too low. I too have stayed in the range of 75-90g of carbs a day all through my weight loss, and I feel great as long as I stay in that range. Honey, give that insulin something to work on...

LOL! See, I did Atkins a few years ago... which of course starts you out very low in carbs. I lost a lot of weight. Gained it all back. Anyways, my doctor said low carb would be good for me, so I just went with what I knew.

I am very new to this PCOS. I was recently diagnosed. I feel so clueless. This site has helped a lot.

I will definitely up my carbs and see if that helps my energy level.

Could some of you post a couple of sample meals? Ones with around 30 grams /meal. That would be soooo helpful.

Thanks!!!

You know? It's funny you should mention that, about the low carb diet and gaining the weight back. Years ago, I did Nutri-System, which back then, was a MASSIVE low carb diet. I followed it religiously, and I lost close to 30 pounds in 2 1/2 months. After that time, I hit a wall, and for two more months, I just couldn't lose any more. And, I gained it all back very quickly after I gave up! Funny part was, I was reeeeaaalllyy tiny in my waist and stomach, but by butt, thighs and boobs were still big. And I kept hitting plateaus left and right. Since being dxd, and going on met, the weight came off totally differently this time. I noticed the weight coming off all over, and the areas where before, it was so stubborn were the first to shrink. That tells me that we have finally found and attacked the root of the problem. Busy, everyone is different, with a unique make-up. For some, the low carb way is working well for them, and that's terrific...for me, I just can't do it. My body rebels and does nasty things to me. Check out the diet and exercise forum...at the top, there are some posts there with sample menus and everything you could ever want to know!!! Listen to your body...it will tell you where it's happy. Don't listen to docs who tell you you MUST low carb, (i.e. less than 20g a day) and that's the only way you'll lose weight. I am here to tell you that a bunch of hooey. Any plan that is lower in carbs will be of benefit to a woman with PCOS.
