Are you supposed to be on a low-carb diet while taking Met? My doctor didn't tell me anything but take this and call back in 2 months!!!!!! I know with low-carb diets you eat alot of salads, but how can you if Met and lettuce does not agree.
I am thinking seriously about trying this low-carb thing but I just love the pastas and rices.

Met's job is to lower the insulin in your body and when you eat carbs/sugars, you spike your insulin, doing the exact opposite. We make the drug work harder this way. When I finally got the connection, it was a miracle for me.
You are *not* limited to mostly salads on a low carb diet and you can still eat pasta and rice. The low carb diet I am on (IR Diet) limits the amount of carb you eat in a 2 hr period. By eating 30g of carb or less in that time window, you avoid the insulin spikes. It also instills the idea that protein (which does not spike insulin) can buffer the effect of carbs on our blood sugar, so I can still eat pasta, rice and potatoes, but the amounts are limited and I combine it with protein. We NEED some carbs in our diets...our body needs the anti-oxidents, vitamins and fibre that the whole grain and fruit carbs have.
I was the carb QUEEN, and I rebelled big time toward LC'ing. But I decided (to spite one of My Dr's) that I would try it, and I will never eat the way I used to again. I can't get over how good I feel!
There is lots more info on this and other LC diets on the diet forum here on SoulCysters.
Hope it helps.

I would definitely recommend low-carbing or at least lower-carbing. The Met may give you a queasy stomach if you eat foods that are too high-carb or too greasy.

You can still see results on a lower carb diet. Just decreasing the amount of carbs you consume can help! Generally, for the last 19 months, I have tried to stay in the range of around 75g or so of carbs a day. That is where I feel best. Don't let anyone tell you that you have to massively drop your carbs in order to lose weight. That is a bunch of HOOOEY! I have lost 152 pounds staying in that range. Eating lower carb helps the met do its thing. Think of it this way...you are taking a diabetic drug. For a diabetic, it is not so much sugar that is bad, they watch the carbs in their diet. It made sense to me that if I was to get the most out of the met, I should watch my carbs, so the medication can do its thing. Check out the diet forum...there are some great stickys at the top on allllll kinds of plans. Find the one you can best live with, and go for it!
