Default Met make you swell???

I've been taking Met about a week now. 500mg in the AM and PM. I take it right after I eat and I drink milk with it.
So far I haven't had any stomach troubles. But I've noticed I am very swollen and gaining weight. Is that possible?

I've never heard of swelling with Metformin. Perhaps you're having some type of reaction to it? I think you should call your doc. Good luck.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one!!!

Yes! I've had the same exact problem. I'm only on 500mg XR, taken in the evening, and I've only been on it for a week. I have gained 4 lbs and I'm so swollen. I called my Dr. yesterday, and the nurse that called me back said that it can happen, but it doesn't happen very frequently and it usually goes away!

She was going to call me back if the Dr. had any additional thoughts, but never heard from her again yesterday.

Good luck. Let me know if it gets better or you find a remedy.

This is happening to me too. I'm glad I'm not alone. I am considering going off Met now... I just can't stand it! My doctor merely says I can go off it if I want, or stay on it if I want... but warns me I might feel worse for going off it. *sigh* I've been on it since May, 1500mg a day. I swear I am getting rounder, even though I haven't actually gained weight... jeans no longer fit in the middle. Grrr.
