My Mood: Points: 39,973.70 Bank: 84.40 Total Points: 40,058.10 | Met *not* helpful in clomid-resistant PCOers??? I am terrible for reading things on the net and panicking about them. Clomid does *nothing* for me, even at 250mgs. Would someone who is more knowledgable on the subject please read this study and give your opinions? http://www.ferti.net/library/highlig...issue10.asp#03
thank you!

Points: 35,796.01 Bank: 3,348,243.84 Total Points: 3,384,039.85 | Thanks for posting this information. Isn't it hard to wade through all the conflicting information? The study you psted is a very small group, and if you read the last line, the article says "Metformin is not always beneficial when given to clomiphene resistant infertile women with PCOS in clinical practice." No drug is always beneficial to everyone.
2 studies I read said the opposite of that article...that clomid resistant women were really helped by met. This study involved women undergoing Invitro fertilization, but it showed that met helped with mature eggs, fertilization and pregnancy rate. http://www.inciid.org/asrm/rolemetf.html
Another study in Italy showed that 34% of women ovulated on met alone, and a whopping 90% of women on clomid and met ovulated. http://www.shadygrovefertility.com/cevents.cfm & http://www.abc.net.au/rn/talks/8.30/...ies/s17962.htm
Met is still fairly new in the treatment of PCOS and there are so many studies going on. As more information is given and studies done, we'll get a clearer picture, but in the meantime...keep the faith. Studies are looking good for this drug for the most part.
Hope this helps

Like all docs and pharmacutical people they are just trying to cover their tushes. They don't want to say that it will work in case someone comes along and it doesn't. They are right though. Met doesn't always work for everyone. I was on 1000 mg a day to start out with and we did clomphine and it did nothing. Then I went to a diabetic endo and he put me on 2000 mg a day, I exercised 3 days a week (low key stuff), lost 42 pounds, did 2 herbs with the met and was pg immediately. I think it had alot to do with all three things, but mainly God said the timing was right. If you have any questions on the herbs that I am talking about email me at watson_kristi@hotmail.com

My goodness! Not better or worse, just different! lol Hope that comes out right - email is such a pain sometimes! hehe Your wt loss is incredible; keeps me motivated!
Kristi - I think you're right about covering hineys! lol I'd love to hear about the herbs you're taking. I'll e you.
It probably seems silly to be worrying about Met working when I already have three children but we just aren't ready to call it quits! lol When I read that info, it was just such a blow. Glad to hear that isn't the end of the story! Thanks ladies!

| Thanks, IFBPreacehersWife. I hope I look different from one to the other (LOL)! The first pic in my sig is after I'd lost about 15 pounds or so last year...my heaviest was about 9 months prior to that. The second picture was taken in April of this year. I showed it to my DH and he told me he thinks I look thinner in the face now than I did in that picture...guess that extra 5 or so pounds I'm down since April makes a difference. Thanks so much for the encouragement...It seems to go so slow at this stage. You ladies inspire me every day.
