Default met and NOT TTC?

Hi ladies,

I have been on 1500mg Met since feb 2006. We conceived in August 2006 and our daughter was born in April 2007. Met NEVER regulated my cycles, I only ovulated b/c of Clomid. My doc recommended that I stay on the Met indefinitely. We are not TTC right now and I am on Yasmin. Anyone know what the purpose is to stay on the Met if you are not actively TTC? I feel like it makes me more tired and I still get GI issues from time to time. I will ask my doc about it but I wanted to get other opinions. TIA1

I have been on the pill (Yasmin as well) for about 8 years and I've been fine without Met for all that time. The pill cleared up my acne and excess facial hair even though it did cause to gain an initial 40 lbs. I'm still on the pill now and I've been at the same weight for over 3 years now.

The reason I've gone on MET now is because I want to start trying to conceive in a year's time and my doctor said I should get my body used to the MET from now. Also he thought the MET might help me lose some weight. (I haven't lost any yet but I've only been on it about 3 weeks now)

So in summary, judging from all the time I've been on the pill without MET I don't see why it would be a problem to go off it. I've also heard that long-term MET use can cause problems with your liver, though I haven't done any research on that so I don't know how true that is. Hope everything works out!

i went on met to help with ir. that was the main reason for going on met. i didnt go on the pill because we do want to try for child number two within the year but that wasnt the reason for met.

Thanks ladies, I think I will ask my doc about it. I don't seem to benefit much from the Met, my weight hasn't dropped and Yasmin helps w/ the acne and hair growth. If we TTC again it wouldn't be until next year or the year after.

My doc put me on met to help regulate my periods. Since I was ttc, he put me on birth control for 3 months to see if my ovaries would improve. I'm off birth control, but have to take met indefinitely, or until early pregnancy. I would say it did help regulate my cycle.
