Questions:
1. Do I have to take Met w/ a full meal or can I take it w/ a snack?
It depends on how well you tolerate it. Try to do a snack, and if it doesn't mess up your tummy, then in a couple of days try it with nothing. That will establish how well your tummy handles the met. Some people find that taking it with a glass of milk is all they need. I sometimes take it with nothing, but usually try to take it at breakfast, and then again after dinner. I do best with it if I already have started eating before taking it, so it doesn't hit an empty tummy, but I don't think how much you eat is really the point, just that the met doesn't hit an empty stomach. Hope that helps!
2. People have said Met reduces B12.. what about the other B vitamins?
Don't know on this one.
3. People say that Met reduces Folic Acid.. should I take this suppliment as well?
As long as you are getting a prenatal with at least 400 micrograms in it, you should be fine. The following is an excerpt from
http://www.marchofdimes.com/pnhec/173_769.asp:
The best way to get enough folic acid is to take a multivitamin with 400 micrograms of folic acid in it and eat a healthy diet. Most multivitamins have this amount, but check the label to be sure. You also can get folic acid in your diet, but it's hard to get enough every day through food alone. That's why the March of Dimes encourages all women of childbearing age to take a multivitamin containing folic acid every day as part of a healthy diet.
Folic acid works, but it only works if taken before and during the first few weeks of pregnancy, when the neural tube is developing into the brain and spinal cord. When the neural tube does not close properly, a baby is born with a very serious birth defect called a neural tube defect (NTD). About 3,000 pregnancies are affected by NTDs each year in the United States. If all women took adequate folic acid before conception and during pregnancy, up to 70 percent of NTDs could be prevented.
Folic acid has no known toxic level. If you ate a bowl of fully fortified cereal (400 micrograms), took a folic acid supplement (400 micrograms), and ate fortified foods and foods rich in folate, you would not get too much folic acid. Even in very high amounts, folic acid is non-toxic. Still, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that women consume no more than 1,000 micrograms of synthetic folic acid a day
4. I have two bottles of Pre-Natal vitamins.. are there enough vitamins in them to take instead of having a bottle of B12 & Folic Acid.. Can I just take the pre-natal and be ok?
5. How long have yall been on Met before your periods returned?
(I take Provera every month to bring on AF)
I have been on 1000mg met for 2+ weeks and no af, yet, but I suspect I will ovulate soon. 1500mg seems to be the "magic number" for many ladies to get on a normal cycle. I think more importantly than the met is the losing weight. Studies have shown that losing only 5% of your body weight may bring back normal cycles in most women. For me, that's only 12 1/2 lbs. and two weeks into met with virtually no diet changes and my regular amount of exersize, I've already lost 1/2 of that. If you get on a healthy diet, in conjunction with the met, it should be easy to lose that 5%. Met makes that possible for many women.
6. Next Cycle I am taking Clomid.. does Clomid work if you are considered obese.
(I am 5' 2" & weigh 210)
It may, it may not. Every woman is different, for some, met alone will restore fertility, for others clomid may, for others, met and clomid are the key to a baby, and for some neither will work, but they may get pg on a natural cycle. Weight doesn't seem to make it less likely to work, however, smoking, and high intake of caffiene have been shown to make the body more resistant to fertility treatments. Hope that was helpful.
7. I am trying very hard to loose weight and drink water but it is so hard.. what have yall been doing in that aspect of your lifes? (Any advice is welcomed)
Don't ask the girl who had her husband drive 10 miles to get her 7eleven nachos and a hotdog for dinner last night...lol. No seriously, I think low-impact exersize is key in normalizing the body's hormones, so don't forget that part of it. Even walking helps. I find that if I make myself drink one bottle of water before I can drink something I like, I get more water in, and less of the other junk. I also wanted to say, don't beat yourself up because you haven't lost weight yet, hopefully the increased dose of met will help you in that department, but I wouldn't be afraid to ask your doc about weight loss drugs, either, just go with the "tried and true", not something new, because everytime they come out with a new one, it eventually gets pulled off the market for being bad for you. I also do try to just think before I eat, and try to pick better for me, but still tasty stuff. For example, I love my bagel and cream cheese each morning, so I switched to a rice cake with cream cheese because it has less carbs, but I still get the yummy cream cheese flavor. You might want to look into the recipe books for south beach diet, too, they have some yummy low-carb recipes. The insulin resistance diet is what makes the most sense to me, because it's about balancing carbs with protein, not getting rid of carbs (which I love), so I'm going to try to loosely follow that plan. There's tons of info on it in the diet and exersize section of sc.
8. Clomid or Femara? (Which on works better?)
Depends on the woman. They'll only try clomid for a max of 6 months, and if it doesn't work, they'll try something else. Studies have shown that if it doesn't work after 3 months, it probably won't be the one to work for you when dealing with ovulation stimulating drugs.
9. I am 31 and feel my inner baby clock is slowly going down.. At what age is still considered ok to get preggers?
Many a woman has had a healthy pregnancy into her mid-40's. Dr's will watch more closely for things like down's syndrome in pregnancies over the age of 35. They'll call it advanced maternal age, but I assure you, many a healthy baby comes from older women, too!
10. Are you tired of me asking questions? (LOL) Thanks if you got this far..
Nope, not tired of the questions...lol Hope that helps you figure stuff out a bit!
