I was on met for about a year before all my symptoms were under control and I had regular periods. Before met they were awful, heavy, and lasted up to 60 days. Originally I took met just to stop these symptoms.
I would tell your doctor that you want to stay on met because it helps with insulin resistance and returns your body to a semi normal hormonal state which is good for you whether or not you are pregnant.
Good luck. I know how frustrating it can be. |

I take it for insulin resistance and this is the first time in my life that I am able to predict when af will arrive within a couple of days and I have even had two 28 day cycles since starting met.

I think your doc needs to rethink his opinion on PCOS and its ramifications on your health. Try talking to him, and if this doesn't work, get another doctor. Besides, some women need to be on met a while before they start to see results, so you might just start o'ing as your husband's problem is fixed. I recommend a reproductive endocrinologist if you can see one. Good luck!

My sister (10 years younger, in college, and defintely NOT trying to ttc) is starting to fight the same battles I am. I made her make an appt with her Gyn to discuss. He kind of blew her off, so I made her drive 2 hours to where I live to visit my RE to get proper diagnosis and treatment.
Remember...It is YOUR body and YOUR responsibility to do what is best for it. If that means finding another Dr. then do it!

Points: 1,508.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,508.00 | I'm on met and I am not TTC right now. I may in a couple years. But the fact of the matter is that PCOS is not just a cause of infertility it is a disorder that affects our bodies and our lives in an unhealthy way. From what I understand, if not kept under control it can be a precursor to Type 2 Diabetes!?!
I am currently having my 2nd AF since starting Met and I couldn't be happier. Never in my life (except when on the pill) have I had reguar periods. It is a great feeling just to know that I'm getting to be "normal."
Most of us are on met because we are insulin resistant which is a metabolic condition that needs to be treated. I hope you can convince your doctor to put you back on it.
((hugs)) to you!
Tamara

My Mood: Points: 5,161.66 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 5,161.66 | I don't think you have to be TTC to take Met... I asked my new gyno about it when i went for my first visit with him, and he DID say that it's usually given to women who are TTC, but that he would give it to me since I was having such a hard time losing weight, and since I couldn't take BCP (high blood pressure concerns.) So... I don't see why there should be a problem with taking it. Just talk to your doc about it.
Hugs,
Daisygirl

Points: 25,133.84 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 25,133.84 | You could see an RE, but a plain old endocrinologist would be good too, maybe better. It was my endo (seeing him for my thyroid) who diagnosed my PCOS and put me on Met. I'm now seeing an RE for TTC. My endo mentioned that a lot of GPs and OB/GYNs are still hesitant about the Met, but that's understandable since it's not their specialty and they're often not up to date on the latest research. As for taking it to TTC or for a lifetime, my endo recommends lifetime use but said we would talk about it after I lose the weight, get pg and have my symptoms under control. It's a personal choice, but absolutely, Met is meant to control symptoms for all PCOSers, not just those TTC.
Get thee to an endo, cyster!
