My Mood: Points: 6,098.43 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,098.43 | I'm going to have to find those articles.. I'm about to go search, if it is easy, can someone post a link here?
I just came back from having an infuriating conversation with my GP who doles out metformin to me in two month supplies (which in and of itself drives me crazy) but now he is insisting that as soon as I decide I actually want to start TRYING to have a baby I must come off it. I'm wondering if this is something he alone thinks or if most doctors in the UK think this.
Metformin has been really amazing for me and I hope to never come off it well, not uneccesarily come off it. Its more than the fact that I'm actually getting my period, I'm losing weight which was impossible before, I have energy which had completely disappeared, I'm less anxious and generally in a better mood (i think that's connected to the energy). For a doctor to just ignore all that is infuriating and for him to think he knows best without having to listen to me is also ludicrous. |

My Mood: Points: 10,269.81 Bank: 45,028.53 Total Points: 55,298.34 | my ob told me that if I were to get pg while on Met that I would stay on it at least through the first tri because it reduces the chances of m/c in IR women. I didn't know about the milk supply! I couldn't bf my dd because of that. I didn't produce enough milk. I'm going to have to talk to my ob when I get pg the next time to see about that. Also, I was jut recently dx w/PCOS. I had a m/c w/my first pg & wonder if I would have had the m/c if I had been dx & had been on met. But, I can't complain too much because I wouldn't have my beautiful dd otherwise because I got pg w/my dd 2wks after my m/c.

Points: 6,681.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,681.00 | I was put on it to try and get pg. It worked the first month I was on it and my OB kept me on it when I got pg to reduce the risk of m/c for the first 12 weeks. (I had a previous m/c from before I knew I had PCOS.) I had blood sugar issues with both pg's so I'd like to stay on it the entire pg this next time.
I have also heard of taking it for milk supply issues but unfortunately my OB did not want me on it while I was bf because it is not FDA approved for use while breastfeeding. There are studies showing it is safe, I even emailed Dr. Hale (author of "Medications and Mother's Milk") and he sent me two studies showing it is safe but my OB said no because no FDA approval, even though there is FDA approval for use during pg.
Anyway, good luck!

Points: 6,681.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,681.00 | Sure, I will tonight when I have more time. Just wanted to be sure you understood that the articles are for breastfeeding though. BUT for pg, it is FDA approved according to my OB and I *think* the research I am sending you may mention that in there but I am not 100% sure that it does. Also, go to pubmed and look up metformin during pregnancy and see what comes up. Good luck!! The research is an attachment Dr. Hale sent me so if it is ok I can just forward to you email.

BonBon,
That is really odd, my Dr. put me on Met to help me regain my cycles and to ovulate without fertility drugs. A lot of cysters are diagnosed b/c they are TTC and then they are prescribed met. That is the case with me. The Dr. said that met may help me to become pregnant.

I was going to go ahead and copy and paste it but it is a pdf so I can't. Dr. Hale also wrote in his email to look up another paper by Begg, E. that shows breastfeeding is safe during Met. usage. I think pubmed would definately have more on pg and bf though.
