I just found out from my blood work that I did ovulate and my period should be here in a wk or so as per dr. Well, we really didn't try too hard for this month since i missed af in april so anyway, what im asking is, since there is a possiblity that I might be pregnant is it okay to start metformin now or just wait until AF comes? I was just dx and finally got the script this morning but the bottle said "do not take if your preg or think you are" UGH....
I can tell you from my experience that you can take met in pregnancy. I am about 9 weeks pregnant, and my OB still has me taking my met. I've never had a warning like that on any of bottles... JMHO, but there's no time like the present to start your met..just start slowly and work up to your full dosage.

ty, cause I was fighting the urge to just start at the full dose... stupid! K I will start tonight with the one pill and work my way to two. Ty for the post!
You're welcome! If you do have some gastric effects, immodium Ad can help with that. Don't try to rush getting to your full dose. When you feel like you can go up, then go up. Starting at the full dose can be pretty rough for some! Gradually, your body will get used to the meds, and those side effects will pass. Another piece of advice is to stay away from greasy or fatty foods, and for some reason, iceberg lettuce can cause tummy rumbles. Romaine was a good alternative for me. Good luck!

You seem like the guru of metformin lol soooo can you point me in the right direction. Is there a thread/post with some of the side effects? SO far so good
Look up at the top of the metformin forum...there's a thread up there (a HUGE one), where everyone has posted side effects and some tips on dealing with them.

KYBluegrass, You sound like you have a good OB. Mine blew me away when she adamantly said to stop taking it! She seemed to disregard the IR and told me I needed to stop b/c I wasn't trying to regulate my cycles anymore. It's been a great consolation to hear from all the women who are still on it and stood up to their docs. I am in West Tn (Memphis) and sometimes I feel like docs here are always 5 minutes behind the regular world in terms of information and knowledge!

I read in a book that women with pcos who take met to get preg should continue taking it for the first three months. It reduces miscarriages with women who have it. It went from 48% chance of miscarriage to 8% or thereabouts... I have to find the book, I just read it this last week and was shocked.
That's a great stat to tell my OB if you find the source!
