Congrats on the success with prozac. One of my girlfriends has had wonderful results with that drug..it's a miracle for a lot of ladies who can overcome the ridiculous societal stigma.

Ultimately, the only one who can make the call regarding combining drugs, is your Dr. If he feels you should be on only one medication, then I would heed that advice or seek another opinion. It's likely the reason your Dr doesn't want to combine the drugs is because some studies indicate that Prozac may affect the amount of glucose in your blood and can work against the met. Some Dr's will only put you on one or the other, while others may simply alter the dosage of met to compensate. Definetly have a heart to heart with your physician on the matter.

Good luck with your decision.

PS: Hope you don't mind me deleting your duplicate of this post...Figured it would be easier for you to get your replies all on one thread.

I've been taking them both for nine months now- actually started them on the same day, although I had been on prozac in the past. I just saw a new doc today and she didn't say anything about taking the two together - must be okay....I don't think I'd be alive if I didn't tkae the prozac!!

I take Met, and I have previously taken Prozac with it, and currently take Cipramil (Celexa). I've never heard of any problem combining Met with SSRI anti-depressants.

Definetly....Prozac is the most researched drug in the world right now. My girlfriend concieved and carried 2 healthy pregnancies on Prozac..but check with your hospital. Some Hospitals have a policy that when the Mom is on Prozac, the baby must be monitired in NICU for 48 hours. It was an unexpected surprise for my friend and her husband and she was understandably upset, since no one discussed this with her prior to the birth..they assumed her Dr had let her know. Her last pregnancy, she chose to take herself off Prozac in the last month or so prior to the birth so she could avoid that this time. Everything went well, and she began Meds again the morning after baby Georgia was born.

I also take Prozac 20mg and metformin. You wouldn't want to be around me without my prozac !!! My Dr. said it was fine to take both.
