Jen,

From what I have read the pill does not actually make you lose weight- You have to diet and exercise and the pill evens the playing field for you. Insulin resistance makes it hard for your body to lose weight, so the metformin regulates your insulin receptors and makes it easier for you to lose weight but only with diet and exercise.

Hope this helps-- also, I am not 100% sure, maybe Met does help some peole lose weight without dieting....

Well, the met helped me loose weight. I lost 8 lb in the first week, going then to about 3 a week, until i lost nearly 40 or so pounds.

EVA37-

That is awesome you lost so much weight on Met!
Did you change anything about your lifestyle to get this result- or did it just happen?

I started Met in April. I changed my eating habits immediately but didn't really lose much weight, maybe 5-10 pounds. Well, I started excerising and I have lost 34 pounds now. Met just makes your body function like someone that doesn't have PCOS or IR. You get to be on the same wavelength as someone w/o these issues which is great but you have to work with it. I love Met, is has done so much for me. My memory has improved, anxiety has gone away....head is just clearer. Good luck.

Jen,

I have been wondering the same thing myself, How long will it take to start seeing some significant weight loss? I have been taking Met since mid-July, exercising 4-6 times a week, and following the IR Diet. So far, I've only seen about a 5 pound weight loss....That being said I do feel ALOT better and I think I have lost some inches, nothing major though. I have been told that Met can take a few months before it starts really regulating you body's insulin fully..... Also, based on what I have read on the message boards, it seems to work differently for everyone. Some people have quick weight loss and others like myself still have to "fight the good fight" for every pound. I've also noticed that exercise makes a huge difference..... HTH
