Angry Met Question

I have been on Met for almost two years, at 2x850 per day. I have given up sweets (which were always a downfall), and controlled my carbs by eating small portions with protein 4 or 5 times a day. I just received a call from my dr saying that both my insulin and glucose are STILL elevated. I have to go in to see him tomorrow, but just wondered - have any of you experienced this? What else did you do to help yourself?

I'm about at the end of my rope. It doesn't seem to matter what I do. Anyone else go through anything similar?

Thanks!

Anna

don't give up, darlin....am I correct that you are taking 1700mg per day of met? (I think I did my math right...). It is possible that you may need a little higher dose of met to see improvement. I commend you on having that lab work done...it's the best way to really know what's going on. You are already doing the right thing with changing your eating habits, and if you're exercising also, you are doing all you can for yourself. Some cysters do need a higher dose of met to see that improvement...I take 2000mg per day. Some do require less, but if your labs are still elevated, you might need to up your dosage a little.

Thanks for the positive words. I was feeling very discouraged yesterday. I had my appt and my RE is sending me to an endo specializing more in tougher cases. He wants to be sure I get the right help as well as get a baby.

He also is sending me to a GI because my liver enzymes were elevated. He's concerned that the met, which apparently metabolizes there, might be making that worse. I hope it's something else, because I'd hate to lose that as an option.

Thanks. My faith is stronger again today.

Talking Anna

Sounds like you've got a good doc there! Yes, don't mess around with elevated liver enzymes...met shouldn't be taken if you have liver or kidney problems. The met itself will not cause the problems, but if you go on it with liver dysfunction, it can lead to some more serious health problems down the road. You might need to try one of the alternate meds out there and see if that works better for you. But, definitely have that labwork done and get checked out, for your own peace of mind. I know it can be difficult at times, but be patient with your body...sometimes the ol' hormones can be really stubborn and it just takes time to get things back on the right track. It sounds like your doc has things well in hand...let us know how you make out!
