I was diagnosed with PCOS at the end of March 2008. 17 days after starting Met, I had my first real period in 6 months. I had another period (24 day cycle) and now a 3rd period (39 day cycle). I have had heavy menstrual flow in the past but these past two periods have brought it to new levels. The period I'm currently having required me to actually have to wear adult incontinence briefs for one day. The cramping has been mega intense, big clots at times, sometimes as big as my hand. I emailed the RNP who works for my endocrinologist last month with my concerns. She said sometimes it takes a few months on Met to regulate. But wow, I can't live like this. I really don't want to be on the pill but I'm afraid I might have to. Anybody else had this experience and did it mellow out eventually? I need some hope!
Good side effects of Met... face almost totally clear since being on Met, even during AF.

Me: 33 - just me & the pets Diagnosed with PCOS March 2008 (anovulatory, irregular menses, acne, androgenetic alopecia, iron deficiency anemia - NOT TTC, just want a regular period and clear skin!) Meds: Metformin ER 2000 mg daily (started 3/27/08), Repliva 21/7 (a great iron supplement for people who can't tolerate ferrous sulfate), B12)
If AF doesn't mellow out in a few months, then you should get a US to r/o uterine fibroids. My cycle was always normal, and started showing the heavy bleeding, clots, and mega cramps a little over a year ago. The culprit was a fibroid.

That's exactly how my period has been since they increased me to 2000 mg of Metformin ER. Except that I've been bleeding for 5 WEEKS, with the exception of 5 days off last week! The clots are horrible...and a little scary, to be honest!
I don't see my Dr. for another 2 weeks, but I'm hoping for some answers and hope that you have had good results since your post!
