Default met ?'s

Okay, I have a question. I had my labwork done in October after going off of BCP's in June. My fasting glucose was normal and my fasting insulin was normal. Has anyone been on met that had normal insulin levels? I am not ovulating on my own. I had a period on my own in August, September, then started on Halloween and haven't had one since. I don't think I ovulated for sure in September because it was really light, but I may not have the other 2 times, either. I talked to my doc and he gave provera and then said it's no big deal as long as I have a period about every 3 months (gave me refills on the provera) unless I want to conceive. "If you want to conceive, we'll put you on Clomid to induce ovulation." He said it like "please pass teh salt" I'm just wondering if anyone has been put on met and had success. I don't want to jump into clomid until i've exhausted my other options.
Sorry about teh rambling, I'd appreciate any comments you guys have.

Were your labs high normal? I'm still in the "normal" range, but my levels are high enough on some values that I am considered borderline. Also, normal for other people may not be normal for your body.

I was put on Met because of a combination of things, including syptoms and labs and value ratios. It varies from woman to woman.

As for your doctor, I'd think aobut getting a second opinion. Through my PCOS journey, I've learned that if I don't feel as though my doctor is providing the care or answers that I need, then it is my job to find one that will.

As for Met alone, I've read a lot of research and studies - Met seems to work pretty well by itself to induce ovulation, reduce testosterone levels and all of the other stuff that isn't working right in our PCOS bodies. But, like anything else, I think it depends on the woman and her case of PCOS.

I'm going to try Met alone first and then after 3 mos if not pg, then we will consider Clomid. I think your plan depends on what you are willing to do and pay for and what your Dr thinks is best.

Good Luck!

My insulin/glucose labs were always borderline during my pregnancies and normal the rest of the time. Thankfully I had a Dr who saw that I had every physical symptom of IR and put me on a trial based on that. With IR diet and exercise I have got my periods back reguarly, kept 60 pounds off for 2+ years, normalized my cholesterol and improved many of my symptoms.

My Insulin was 8.4 (the reference range said 6.0-27.0). I have the symptoms, though. Excess around the middle and thighs, elevated testosterone, and hirsutism.
Thank you for helping me out with this! I really appreciate it.
Stacy-Good luck on your ttc journey. I hope you have success soon! I'll be thinking about you.
Christy-Congrats on your success! I'm so proud of you. Keep up the good work. You give the rest of us hope.
Thanks again girls. It gives me confidence to think and take the next step!

Hi, my labs were normal too and my obgyn put me on it because he specializes in hormones and knew about a study that showed met. can help women ovulate, even those without IR or PCOS symptoms (although I do have lots of the symptoms). I got pg my first month on met. after 4 months of clomid so it definately did something that the clomid did not! Good luck!
