Thumbs down Met side Affects

Hi all
i just wanted toa sk what you all do about met side affects!
I stated met for the first time 3 weeks ago, i was on 500 a day until yesterday when i started taking 2 500s a day (1000 a day) i had just taken the morning dose and i started feeling so ill, it felt JUSt like morning sickness!!! i couldnt stand the smell and look of the food i was cooking and i really didnt want to eat it! i was hungry, but i didnt want to eat anything that i had! i take the met with food and/or milk everytime but im still getting these nasty side affects.
today is the second day and ive taken the 1st pill only so far and i feel aweful! i slept for a couple of hours and i made a pumpkin pie which i really want to eat but the thought of it makes me feel ill!
not to mention the upset tummy!
ugh... anything i can do to ease this!???

thanks in advance
Emma

HI. I eat before I take the pills and then drink milk with them. For the running to the bathroom, take the off brand diareha (sp?) meds. I take one each time I take the met. Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks Jessica
its mostly the Nausea/being put off by food that im having touble with but the diarhea (i dont know how to spell it either hehehe) is pretty nasty too!
How long do the side affects last???
i figure im going to go through them again when i up my dose to 1500mg in a couple of weeks!
And yeah i take them in the middle of a meal (i like the food-met-milk idea better)
thanks for your advice!

OK ladies, I am on day 3 of Met and starting to feel the digestive effects more. On the first 2 days I did just one round of 850mg, but the doctor prescribed twice daily so I brought my yogurt smoothie, granola bars, instant oatmeal, a banana and water with me to work so I could take it and have something to eat here. Drank the smoothie and had one cup of coffee at 9am, then took a pill at 9:30. By 10:30 I was feeling hundry-sick to my stomach so I ate some oatmeal with the banana sliced up in it. Thought that would do it, but then by 11AM, I was feeling sick again and so I ate the granola bar. Then by lunch I was hungry again at 12:15 I ate a small piece of lasagna and some grilled veggies and a tea. Ok so now I am running to the bathroom and my butt is on fire...having very loose you-know-whats now!

What am I doing wrong? I have never eated this much before in one day let alone all before 1PM! I feel disconnected and I'm having hot flashes and I am about to make trip two to the bathroom. How on earth am I gonna make it through this day and week for that matter at work? UGH

it took me a little while to get used to met... i'm only on the 500 mg though. i had diarrhea really bad the first 2-3 times i took it. after that, i found it gradually got better. i try to take it in the morning, with food. and i also try not to go too long without eating because i find that makes the nausea and smell sensitivity worse.

hope you fell better!

I took the lower dose for almost three weeks before upping the dose. And I take it right before bed, which I think helps.

Emma, I have the same problem as you. I get nauseous and I have a loss of appetite. I am thankful for the loss of appetite because I need to losealot of weight. I have been on the met a little over a week now and the s/e are getting better. One thing that helps me when I feel a tad bit nauseous is yogurt or spearmint chewing gum.

Emma- thanks I am back at work this monring, drank my coffee and have been sipping on my smoothie and will be taking my first dose of the day in a few minutes. Last night when I got home I was so totally exhausted I fell asleep in the chair in the livingroom and my sweet hubby went and got pizza for dinner. After I dozed for about a half hour I felt somewhat better and was able to get a couple pieces of pizza down without too much problem and then took my night dose and we sat up for about an hour talking. But I still felt tired and ended up going to bed early anyways. I suppose the extra rest did me some good as I felt rested when I got up today.

I am going to try and stick it out for the rest of this week and cope with it as best as I can. Seems like the general concensus is that over a week or two the body gets used to the meds and the side effects are less in strength. So we'll just have to wait and see. If that doesnt help then I will be on the phone with the doctor to see what other options I have.

Tess

Emma,
I had the same side effects when i was on 1000mg per day I took that dosage for about 3 weeks. That is how long it took me to get over the side effects. When i increased my dosage to 1500mg per day i had no side effects and i haven't since. Hopefully you will get over the side effects sooner then i did, just hang in there everything will equal out in the long run.
