I am not sure if it is a side effect or not. I recently went form 1,000mg a day to 2,000mg a day. I have noticed that I don't eat near as much as I used to. Most of the time, food doesn't even sound good to me and it is hard to decide what I do want to eat. I just eat because I have to. So, maybe it does have something to do with the Metformin. I'm honestly not sure.

I am the same way about the breakfast cereal. When nothing else sounds good and I am afraid that my stomach will get upset it's cereal with a banana. Good luck ladies!

I've been on Metformin for nearly 3 years. My old doctor had me on 1500mg/day, and while he warned me that any high carb foods would have a negative effect on my digestive tract, he didn't tell me that just looking at a glass of water would have the same effect. I recently started seeing an RE after leaving the other Dr., and she told me I had been on too high of a dosage and reduced me to 1000mg/day. I've not had any ill effects since. I can now look at water and not have to run for the restroom!

There were times when just the thought of food hurt my stomach when I was on the 1500/day.

Not sure if its a s/e, but I feel the same way... I just eat bcos I have to, and that too, not as much as I used too.

I think this is definetly a side effect of met. Since I have been taking it I cannot find anything that sounds remotley appealing to me. That's strange considering I will eat just about anything. I am one of the least picky eaters ever and likewise with the cereals. It's about the only thing that I really am liking either hot or cold.

From what I've experienced...it's definately a side effect. I'm on 2000mg/day and I feel gross when I eat too many carbs, fats or sugars. Best advice is to eat a high lean protein diet. My DR said that while the side effects from food aren't the main reason for the meds...they ultimately help you lose weight. I dunno...but I'm down 12 pounds as a result. Best of luck...but watch what you're eating...the side effects should go away in a week or so.

I am the same way. i have no desire to eat. Infact, I had to make myself eat because I started to feel weak, but, I was not hungry at all. i am only on 500, but tomorrow I up my dose as per my dr to 1000! I am a little afraid that I may starve to death!! I am never hungry and when I do eat I stay full for a very long time.My doctor says that is very normal and try to eat small meals.

hey there, I have 500g x 3 and yeah its a side effect, I guess I feel the same way it must be something to do with the blood sugar level lowering properties of metformin, sometimes certain foods help get rid of the sick nauseous feeling for me, like fizzy cola bottles!
