Default Met = Sleeping pill??

I have been on 500mg of Met for just over a week now and I feel like I am taking sleeping pills. I have slept most of the weekend. I was only up for about 5 hours on Saturday and hoping to be up for about 8 hours today. I have no problem sleeping at night and am forcing myself to stay awake now.

I started taking multivitamins yesterday for my B-12 since I am vegan. I am also anemic and I had to order vegan iron pills online and they will be here tomorrow. I'm hoping they will help me out. I was anemic before I started taking the Met and am usually right at the border of OK and anemic. I usually take iron for a few days before donating blood and am OK the rest of the time.

I just don't know if it's just the anemia or in combo with the Met. I take it and fall asleep. I can't believe how wiped out I feel on it.

Do others have this side effect? Or is it just me?

I've been very fatigued, but I'm taking Fortamet. Being anemic doesn't help obviously

Notify your doc who prescribed it, he/she would most likely be the best solution(s) you have for this symptom.

Good luck, let us know how you go.

i started 1000mg a day 2 weeks ago. just like you i was extremely fatigued the first week. i would come home after work and just crash. i got worried because i thought this might be a symptom of lactic acidosis. so i called the doctor and they said that it's normal to feel sluggish when you first start it and that it will go away. i just finished my second week and i feel fine now ... much less lethargy. but if you're really worried, you can call the doctor's office. that always puts my mind at ease!

I was super tired too when I first started it (so tired I was concerned as you are) and then after about 2 weeks I was suddenly fine and felt great. I called my doc just before I felt better (life always works that way, doesn't it?) and he said the same as nastabasta's doc.

Thanks for the responses. I can finally stay awake the entire day! I decided to add on the 2nd pill tonight. I just didn't want to wait another 2 weeks. I want this stuff to kick in and make me feel better and lose weight. I'm going on vacation at the end of May and don't want to have to buy an extra seat.

I realized when I ask my doctors about my symptoms, they say it's the met even before I finish my sentence. I swear I could say my hair was turning blue and they'd say it was the met. At least the metal taste in my mouth is gone.

Thumbs up

Hey, best of luck starting the second/added dose, I pray it works out and gets better from here for you. Like you, I've been instructed to wait one more week, before I increase the dose to 1000mg a day. Right there with ya, want it to kick in, and help me lose weight as well, nice extra added benefit for us
Have a beautiful time on your vacation, & you still have at least another month for the increased dose to kick in for you. I got that metallic taste in the mouth the first day and that was it, weird.

Keep on pressing on
