Default Met and Time of Day

Does anyone know why some doctors are saying to take with b-fast and some with dinner and some say to break it up during the day?

Mine said to take it every night with dinner. I wonder what the reasoning is??

I am assuming so that you take it with some food in your stomach. It helps with the GI issues it can cause.

I was also told to take it with dinner and my doctor told me that it would lower the side effects of upset stomach, etc.

so the side effects (mainly the nausea) hit at night when you're sleeping. Of course, nothing is worse than being awakened at 12:30 and having to sit on the potty for an hour (my experience Tuesday night).

Part of it may be that there are different kinds of Met. There is the IR (immediate release) and SR/XR (slow/extended release). That may account for breaking up the dosages. More than likely you'd break it up if it's immediate release.

Taking it with dinner may be what a PP said, it may help you sleep through some of the side effects. Although...I must say, if you get the bad side effects...you're NOT sleeping through it! I take all mine at breakfast because it's easier for me to remember. I have the XR.

Ah, I didn't know there were two kinds. I do have the extended release, I just checked. I feel lucky to have no side effects yet...its only been three days though.

I am on the XR, I also take all at dinner. I find that if I have side effects they just happey shortly after I get up in the AM, then I am good for the rest of the day! To me that is very tolerable.

My s/e usually hits about 1:00 pm. Last time I was on Met I had the big D all day, every day. This time, with changes in diet, the once a day is much more tolerable.
