Since Met can deplete vitamin B12, and that can cause hair loss, is there anybody out there who takes B12 supplements? If so how much? I started taking Met in November and then Spiro in January. But I had to stop the Sprio after about 10 weeks because it made my blood pressure too high. Since I stopped the Spiro, my normally thick hair is feeling thin, and it kind of worries me. When I was diagnosed in November I realized that I had a small amount of hair loss at my temples, and I was thinking the Met had improved that, but overall my hair just isn't thick anymore and it was just a few months ago. I'm taking one B12 pill a day (200mcg). Is that enough?

Have you had your testosterone levels checked? I had elevated levels which intially caused my hair loss. I take a combo of Metformin (2000mgs) and Spironolactone (200mgs). My hair loss stopped for about a year, then started again. We finally figured out that my iron was/is very low which can also cause hair loss.
I take a subligual B12 twice a week. I buy mine at Trader Joes.
For me the hair loss is the worst part of this disease. Good Luck!
My thyroid was fine with my bloodwork 6 months ago. My testosterone was on the upper end of "normal" (around 73), but I think that has improved since I started taking Met because my facial hair is better.

Ive found that along with your Metformin if you take a Prenatal vitimin you will have more than enough of the nutrients you will need. The stress from your body not working properly added to it the emotional stress we go through is taxing on our bodies and has an adverse effect overall..your body uses and depleats more and more of the nutrients vital to our health as women.
So my doctor told me to take the supplements every other day. Giving my body time to use what's been given and not waste any. Plus, I take Saw Palmetto and its not only slowed down the current loss its keep the rest a bay. I see less and less hair in my brush and on my bed pillow each week. What manufactures dont want you to know is that the number one key ingredient in mens hair loss drugs is Saw Palmetto!.
I also use a product from Sally's that black women use to promote a healthly scalp and encourage new growth. Its a shampoo in a green bottle (cant recall its name it starts with a K) and it smells like a Halls cough drop. It exfoliates your scalp and removes the dead skin cells that clog up and leaves your hair soft and your scalp tingles in a refreshing way.
I also have a book from a woman author (cant recall her name at the moment) that also address hair loss. Any one interested in knowing about the book just contact me. Ive tried her methods and can give a first hand account on its results. Both good and bad.
Look under the "Hair Loss" heading. Looks like the mystery hair loss I've been experiencing has something to do with Metformin... And I thought that Met was supposed to HELP this symptom!
