Question Met and weight gain

I was given the metformin to take at the end of October. I was diagnosed at the same time.

I immediately started exercising and adjusting my diet. I lost 5 lbs the first week. then I started taking the met. and I've been unable to loose any more weight. Despite the fact that I am eating very well and exercising 3x a week.

My blood sugar was not that bad and I wonder if my diet has modified the blood sugar and the met is not longer needed~would the met hinder weight loss if I didn't really need it??

thanks!
