Default Met and weight loss

OK, my question may be a bit unique and I know there are lots of you out there who will say, "I wish I had that problem" but here goes.

I am now on 2000 mgd of Metformin. (Zero side effects.) It is the ONLY thing I am consistent about. (Oh, and a teeny, tiny dose of Synthroid for hypo, too . . . so small it's not even measured in a miligram!

I am not making any effort to eat right but I am exercising, when it fits into my schedule.

Now for the problem . . . I weigh something different on every scale I try! The most accurate one seems to be at the gym I go to most often. It weighed me similar to the doctor's scale the first time, and has shown a steady decline ever since. The one at the other gym I go to sometimes weighs me 20 pounds lighter, consistently! I really don't know whether to believe either one.

Last week I was on vacation and I did not exercise, but I did trudge through sand traps at the beach, swam a bit, and climbed a huge hill just to see a monument to the pioneers of flight. Oh, and I had also been taking the thyroid meds consistently since day one of the trip.

When I got back to the hotel on the way home from my vacation, I noticed a fitness room. Of course I was too dead tired to use it . . . but I did step on the scale just for fun. Believe it or not, it weighed me eight pounds lighter than the gym scale!

Now I really don't know what to believe! My clothes aren't fitting different, but it would take a long time for me to notice a difference . . . . before I dropped 25 pounds and never dropped a pant size!

Bottom line . . . is it possible to drop this much weight (roughly 16 pounds in a month) on medication and moderate exercise alone?

Don't ya' just hate all the different scales? It cracks me up how 'off ' scales are from one another, and yet the pound is a universal measurement!

Since you were weighing yourself on so many scales there is no way of knowing if they were all calibrated the same. Different scales can be off by several pounds and if all these scales are several pounds of each other, you have no way of knowing what your real weight is.

I would pick one and weigh yourself on it regularly. Disregard all the other scales and just find one that you can weigh yourself on consistently. That way you have one consistent benchmark on which to gauge yourself.

16 pounds is rather high for a one month period, although women on some extremely low carb diet have dropped that much. My Dr warned me against losses greater than 2 pounds per week...statistically speaking, when you lose a ton of weight like that, it isn't off to stay and it isn't as healthy for your body.

I don't want to discourage you...it is entirely possible that you are losing weight. But if you stick to one scale you'll know for certain if you are losing and won't have to guess about your success. Good luck!

PS Your trip sounds so WONDERFUL! I'm getting vacation envy!
